Respawn Responds to Apex Legends RTX 3080 Crashing Reports on PC

The RTX 3080 has been an incredibly elusive graphics card, and those lucky enough to find one that also happen to play Apex Legends may have had their luck end there, as players are citing poor performance with the game running on the 3080.

The new 30-series graphics cards created by Nvidia have been one of the most highly sought-after gaming items in 2020, and shortages of the components needed to make more RTX 30-series cards are not helping the matter. But it would seem fans of Apex Legends who haven’t been able to get their hands on one may have dodged a bullet for the time being.

A few posts have been made on the Apex Legends subreddit from users citing frequent crashes when trying to play the game with an RTX 3080. A month ago, Redditor doggo_99 made a post saying that they couldn’t play for more than 2 minutes without a crash, but didn’t have any problems when playing alone on the firing range. Another post was made by Ragnorok64 three days ago, and a few other players with 3080s and even 3070s replied citing similar issues.

Two days ago, a developer from Respawn named rspn_pav replied to both posts on Reddit saying that they have notified the team and that they are looking into the issue. They encourage anyone else experiencing issues with the 30 series cards to report to Respawn with details on their PC rig, as well as whether they launch the game with Origin or Steam, which Apex Legends just released on last month.

Ragnorok64 did note that uninstalling Nvidia Broadcast, Nvidia’s proprietary streaming application, helped their game’s performance, so perhaps the fix could be out of Respawn’s control. Regardless, hopefully, the issue can be fixed before the next set of content drops for Apex Legends in the new year, as the next Stories from the Outlands short that will lead into the next update is expected to go live Tuesday, December 29.

The event will feature a boxing ring town takeover for the legend Pathfinder, as well as a lineup of new skins, including a special Noir-inspired one for Pathfinder. His skin will feature a unique select animation like how Bloodhound and Wraith’s special skins did for their respective events following their Stories from the Outlands trailers. The event will likely begin in early 2021 after the current sales and Holo-Day Bash LTM end, with more content likely rolling out throughout the year.

Apex Legends is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
