Square Enix Launches Dragon Quest Marriage Campaign | Game Rant

One of the most important decisions in Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride is choosing who to marry out of two options (or three in the Nintendo DS remake) as this affects the appearance of your two children later in the game. Of course, Square Enix decided to utilize the game’s link to marriage for a real-life campaign.

Square Enix will release a set of silver and resin wedding rings based upon those used in Dragon Quest V, one based on the Circle of Fire and the other based on the Circle of Water. Both rings cost 19,580 yen (about US $190) each and will release in Japan on April 10, 2021, with pre-ordering now available through the Square Enix.

Besides these rings, Square Enix is also releasing a necklace and a pair of earrings with a Slime on them. The necklace costs 4,180 yen (US $40) and releases at the same time as the rings while the earrings will cost 10,780 yen (US $100) for one ear and 19,580 yen for both ears and releases on 13 March, 2021. A free marriage registration certificate with Dragon Quest branding is also available for download. With all these options, it certainly seems that having a Dragon Quest-themed wedding is possible, albeit in Japan only. If not, just host the wedding in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Dragon Quest remains one of the most recognizable RPG IPs in Japan, with Square Enix finding a considerable amount of commercial value in the brand name. The long-running JRPG series will be celebrating its 35th anniversary next year. The franchise is also getting its own theme park attraction called Dragon Quest Island early next year that places visitors into a story where they become the heroes of their very own RPGs.

Despite all these years, the series remains in the public eye and continues to release new entries, with Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age releasing back in 2017 and a Definitive Edition releasing on Switch in 2019 and PC, PS4, and Xbox One this year. While nothing has been officially announced yet, series creator Yuji Horii teased that something will come for the franchise’s 35th anniversary next year.

Besides Dragon Quest, there are also Pokemon-themed wedding rings from Japanese jewelry company U-Treasure. These rings feature Eevee and are made out of platinum, with the Eevees made out in gold. They are also considerably more expensive ranging from 66,000 yen (US $640) to 125,400 yen (US $1200).
