Christmas time allows more popular Twitch streamers to take time off to spend with family. Some smaller streamers instead take the opportunity to spend the holiday on stream, connecting with viewers on a more intimate level. For Twitch streamer Hollycannabis, this stream was no different from her usual Just Chatting streams.
Hollycannabis is a streamer who, in addition to featuring in the Just Chatting category, also occasionally streams Dead by Daylight and Overwatch. When not gaming, Holly regularly does cosplays for her chatters and most recently streamed her transformation into The Grinch for Christmas.
For this stream, Holly settled on a chill showcase featuring her cooking skills and was preparing to remove a tray from the oven when a mouse sprung from a kitchen drawer, landing in the oven. Moments later, when Holly checked the oven and drawer underneath, the rodent was nowhere to be found.
Several minutes after the initial encounter, Holly investigated the oven drawer again, utilizing a pair of tongs to sift around inside. The mouse, hiding under a baking tray, sent the streamer into terror as it went running for cover. Shortly after, a distressed Holly looked into the camera as she exclaimed: “Guys I’m f***ing terrified. What do I do?”
Hours later Holly, exasperated, streamed an update going into more detail about the planning and aftermath of her wholesome Christmas dinner, which began at 2:30 AM that morning with preparing gingerbread cookies. By the time of the incident, the streamer had cooked an entire feast, concluding with baking the cookies along with a ham. Though Holly managed to catch and contain the mouse, the streamer admitted that the rodent escaped. As a result, she has opted to live with a friend, stating that she “had to throw the house away.”
It’s sad to see that Holly’s hard work and dedication was ruined by an untimely pest. With 2020 being a bane for everyone to deal with, it sucks to have it further disrupted by something we can’t control. On the other hand, Holly’s attempt to peacefully relocate the mouse is one of many good examples set by Twitch streamers recently.
Other streamers have had varying experiences while streaming during the holiday season. Popular battle royale streamer Tfue had a Minecraft stream interrupted by a police officer, who requested that the streamer come out with his hands up. Thankfully the situation was resolved without injury, though later, a donator believed to be the “swatter” teased the streamer with a message: “get swatted.” On a lighter note, fellow Twitch streamer Pokimane received an interesting gift in the form of a “boyfriend resume” during a short Christmas unboxing stream. Ultimately, she decided to pass on the potential boyfriend due to him having zero wins in Fall Guys.
Holly’s experience also serves as a lighter change of pace from recent news of Twitch’s stream of controversial bans and policies. Hopefully, Holly can channel the viral fame from this moment into opportunities in the future.
