Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Bug Makes Eivor Load In Drunk

One of the new features added to the franchise in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla allows Eivor to get drunk. As a viking, drinking is an important part of their character, and so this makes a lot of sense. Typically this happens as a result of drinking contests found throughout England, and the effects fade shortly after, but a recent bug is making the feature much more prevalent.

What started out as a neat detail to show the effects of alcohol on Eivor’s focus has turned into a major headache, as this Assassin’s Creed Valhalla bug makes Eivor drunk every time the player loads a save file. While this seems harmless at first, there are some negative repercussions.

While drunk, the screen moves around as if the world is spinning, making it much more difficult to get one’s bearings and take in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla‘s breathtaking world. More importantly, though, players can’t lock onto enemies while drunk, so if the player saved just before a tough fight, every time they reload after dying the fight will be even tougher since the lock on feature is disabled.

Though it isn’t entirely confirmed, this bug seems to be triggered by partaking in the drinking contest in Ravensthorpe, one of the many events added with the Yule Festival event. This event has brought with it a number of inconvenient bugs, including one that glitches the player’s quiver and makes it hold less ammo, and so far there’s been no fix. That means that, unfortunately, players will have to just deal with the bug for the time being. Thankfully it isn’t game breaking but it can be annoying after a while.

All that said, there is a way that players can circumvent the bug, as fast traveling, meditating, or even waiting for a while will cause Eivor to regain their sobriety. Basically, any event that causes a significant amount of time to pass will end the effects. While it’s fun to imagine that Eivor spends their time drinking while the player is away, it’s definitely understandable to want this AC Valhalla bug fixed as soon as possible. Since it is so widely occurring, hopefully Ubisoft will step in soon.

Players should be sure to take care when entering fights while drunk, as the lock on feature can be a lot more helpful than fans first realize. It is said that one doesn’t know what they have until it’s gone, and that definitely seems to be the case here. In time this and other bugs caused by the Yule Festival event should be sorted out. Until then, be sure to take part in the festivities to get all the rewards the Yule Festival has to offer.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
