Call of Duty Competitive Agreements Are Getting Out of Hand, Says COD Pro and Optic Owner

While the official Call of Duty League has its own set of rules, the competing players often add even more limitations to the game in an effort to maintain balance. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s CDL season is nearing its start, and as players look closer at the official “Gentleman’s Agreement,” some players have some reservations ahead of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War‘s 2021 events.

Fans are expecting the 2021 CDL announcement and Challengers season to start later in January; until then, fan hype continues to build. In the December 26th episode of Eavesdrop podcast, OpTic Chicago’s owner Hector Rodriguez and Call of Duty pro Dillion Price discussed the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War CDL scene and the GA’s that may be harming the competitive scene.

In short, a GA is a set of rules that the competing players have agreed to follow. Although the CDL does not enforce these rules, most players tend to follow the agreement for balance reasons. Both Rodriguez and Price have grown concerned that GAs may negatively affect the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War professional cycle throughout 2021. The issue at hand is that the GAs are slowly becoming more and more unreasonable.

A recent GA decision that Price brings up is in regards to the AK74u Task Force Barrel. This attachment has been disallowed because it is “overpowered,” a status only given because it can kill an opponent in three headshots. As Amateur players have begun requesting restrictions on assault rifles, SMGs, and the 1911 sidearms, both Rodriguez and Price can agree that things are slowly getting out of hand.

Price believes that there should be a middle ground. In his experience, it feels like some Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War players have begun to abuse the GA list for personal reasons. It is slowly becoming less about what is more balanced and more about how some players do not like certain guns.

As GA restrictions become tighter, both the owner and competitive player can agree that the situation has gone too far. It is becoming a concern that the GA system may be hurting the competitive options in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. While restricting certain weapons was a start, now the GA has begun to restrict certain maps, which is taking things too far for the professionals.

Price points out that too many restrictions can affect more than just the competitive bubble. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War CDL viewers can quickly become punished as they lose a chance to see the pros play with their favorite gear. While there are definitely issues with the GA system, it seems that, for the moment, these agreements are still in place. Competitive players and team owners alike are waiting to see just how far these agreements may go.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
