With 2021 fast approaching, everyone is preparing to ring in the new year with their resolutions and promises for the future. Japanese video game director and game designer Masahiro Sakurai, known for being the head of Super Smash Bros., has also shared what seems to be his New Year’s resolutions on Twitter, saying that he’ll post less about Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Published by Nintendo, the crossover fighting video game Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has continued to make news in 2020 even during the pandemic. Throughout the year, the development team has revealed, then released, new characters from various series such as Steve from Minecraft, and more recently, Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII. With Sakurai being the main man behind the hit fighting game series, his fans tend to watch his social media posts for future game updates and hints on the next characters to be revealed.
On a recent Twitter post, Sakurai celebrates the first anniversary of his in-game Smash Bros. screenshot project, where he promised to share his favorite development photos of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate to the game’s fans every day for a whole year. Since then, using the game’s debug mode and other development tools, he has filled his Twitter account with unique and funny photos that highlight the many different characters & stages featured in the game.
In the thread, Sakurai says that he will not be stopping completely from posting photos. After the holiday break, Sakurai shares that he will be posting five times a week instead of his normal seven. This is due to confidentiality issues that have limited the stock of photos available to him. He states that he still has around 100 screenshots to share, so he plans to slow down his posting pace. In the meantime, fans will have to wait for the next Super Smash Bros. Ultimate video from Nintendo that features Sakurai for more news and updates.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is exclusively available now for the Nintendo Switch.
