Streaming personality Dr Disrespect often comes up with video game ideas and tweaks on the fly. It makes sense, given the fact that he was once a level designer and community manager for Sledgehammer Games (Doc even has his own level and character in Rogue Company). He has always had a grasp of game design and what the community is hoping for, and now that he streams on a regular basis, that is perhaps doubly so. His most recent Call of Duty: Warzone thought is one that he claims is a “multi-million dollar idea.”
During a recent match on stream, Dr Disrespect reiterated that it would be interesting if players could buy another Gulag chance, for a hefty fee. Of course, the Gulag in Warzone allows players another opportunity at life on the battlefield if they win a one-vs-one battle to the death with a random weapon loadout. Players are only given one chance to win this fight and then rejoin the main fight, but Doc thinks that players should be able to purchase an extra Gulag chance for $20,000 at buy stations.
In many ways, this idea could be a game-changer in what is one of the biggest multiplayer games of 2020. Being able to theoretically rejoin the battle infinitely is an interesting idea. There could be a cap on how many Gulag tokens could purchase, and likewise, the steep price would make it so that buying a million of them is not possible. Of course, players can already be bought back by teammates as well, but players being in control of their own destiny is very intriguing.
There would be a lot of strategy for Call of Duty: Warzone in the decision to purchase an extra Gulag at a Buy Station. First off, the $20,ooo price tag would be extremely steep and a gamble for the player to make. With the Gulag closing towards the end of the match, a second chance purchase could go unused if the player never died again, meaning it was a wasted buy; one that could have gone towards a UAV, an Airstrike, a Self-Revive, etc.
Another Gulag buy could be a bit controversial as well. One of the more unique aspects of Warzone is that players are given one more shot at returning to the game with a win in the Gulag, so if they were allowed another chance, it could cheapen the experience. That is likely why the self-proclaimed Two-Time put such a high price tag on the purchase. Another intriguing way to look at Doc’s idea is from a solo angle. Many players go for solo records in Warzone and enjoy running around alone. Being able to buy Gulag tokens and come back over and over would completely change the flow of gameplay.
While Call of Duty: Warzone is ever-evolving, it’s integration with Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has been a bit bumpy. In some ways that is to be expected with multiple games connecting with one another. However, if Activision can get a handle on properly passing the torch of integration from one Call of Duty to another, Warzone is likely here to stay for quite some time.
Call of Duty: Warzone is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
