Hideki Kamiya Gives Update on Project GG Game | Game Rant

Over the span of its life, Platinum Games has delivered an impressive number of hit action games, with the likes of Bayonetta, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, Nier: Automata, and Astral Chain going down as some of the best of the genre. Now, studio co-founder Hideki Kamiya has stated that Platinum is getting started on potentially adding its first self-published IP, known as Project GG, to that list.

With 2020 coming to a close later this week, Famitsu ran its annual series of end-of-year interviews with creators from across the Japanese gaming industry. The publication sat down with 110 developers to reveal what their goals are for 2021, and among these developers was Kamiya, who offered a few quick updates on some of Platinum’s upcoming titles, including Project GG.

Not much is known about this game at the moment. Project GG was announced back in February, billed as the “powerful climax to the Hideki Kamiya superhero trilogy” that presumably includes Viewtiful Joe and The Wonderful 101. Other than that, the game’s reveal trailer suggests that it will revolve around fighting giant monsters, as it shows a person transforming into a giant reminiscent of the popular Japanese superhero Ultraman in order to confront a rampaging kaiju.

While Kamiya didn’t have any new details to offer Famitsu, he did confirm (as translated by Gematsu) that the game has “finally started moving,” suggesting Project GG is now in active development at Platinum Games. Of course, that doesn’t provide a clearer idea of when the game might come out, but Kamiya still asked fans to “please look forward to it.”

Although not much was said about Project GG, Kamiya was a little more forthcoming about Platinum’s most-anticipated title, Bayonetta 3. Acknowledging fan concern over the lack of news since Bayonetta 3‘s announcement three years ago, he assured that development is “going very well.” Additionally, Kamiya stated that “verifications of new systems have been going great,” and since the game will be a Nintendo Switch exclusive, it’s likely that he’s referring to the new gameplay systems being developed for it.

There’s plenty more that Kamiya didn’t touch upon. As part of its recent push into self-publishing, Platinum announced this year that it’s working on four projects that include two unannounced titles in addition to Project GG and The Wonderful 101 Remastered, which launched back in May. Furthermore, the studio is also working on a new fantasy-action game, Babylon’s Fall, for Square Enix, and according to the most recent update, the development team is hoping to be able to reveal more as soon as possible.
