Nintendo fans may not know exactly what is on the way in 2021 quite yet, with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2‘s release date still unknown and plenty of games not yet announced. One Nintendo hero looks to still be here to save the day in 2021: Kirby. Thanks to a recent 4Gamer published series, a Japanese website that was then translated by Siliconera, it looks like Kirby is on the menu in 2021.
Director Yumi Todo told 4Gamer that HAL Laboratory is working hard on its 2021 plans to bring Kirby games, merchandise, books, and event events to fans throughout the year. Just two months ago, HAL Laboratory surprised launched Part-Time UFO on the Switch, and Todo also encouraged players to try that out.
The most recent Kirby title to launch was Kirby Fighters 2 on the Switch in September. Perhaps more than any other Nintendo franchise, Kirby is an experimental series. Many of the games are spin-offs, mini-game compilations, and things of that nature, like Kirby Fighters 2, for example. With Kirby Star Allies launching in 2018 and being the most recent mainline title, it may be about time for the next mainline entry, and Todo’s statement seems to alludes to that.
We’ll keep working hard on our goal in 2021. That is, for as many people as possible to enjoy Kirby. We have plans not only for games but also for merchandise, books, and a variety of events like with the Kirby Cafe. We hope you’ll continue to support both Kirby and HAL Laboratory in 2021!
It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that more Kirby is on the way. Whether it is a mainline title or something of an experimental spin-off, there seems to be a new Kirby title about every year. Another possibility with a 2021 Kirby game is a remastered version of a classic Kirby game. There are many options to choose from, 2021 should be very interesting.
