Now well into its second free-to-play season, popular cars-meets-soccer game Rocket League has been thriving with the new format. With a flurry of new collaborations, in-game events, and a battle pass to grind out, content keeps coming for the esports-oriented game.
Rocket League is no stranger to unique game modes, such as Snow Day putting players on ice while turning the game’s ball into a hockey puck; and Hoops, which has players aiming to shoot a basketball. Aside from these staple modes, the game also has its fair share of rotating limited-time modes, and it looks like a fan-favorite has made a brief return.
Although Rocket League‘s annual Frosty Fest just ended, the game’s Twitter account announced yesterday it will be bringing back the Heatseeker mode for a limited time. The game mode will be replacing another limited-time mode, Spike Rush.
The Heatseeker event game mode is live now through January 4 for all players. First introduced in April 2020 before Rocket League went free-to-play, Heatseeker has the ball gain speed anytime it touches a player or backboard, and it will home in on the opposing goal once it has been hit. If the ball misses the goal and hits a backboard, it will quickly fire back toward the initial team’s goal. The last time players saw the Heatseeker game mode was on June 17 for a single day, but it seems Pysonix will allow players a bit more time with the game this time around.
While some players have expressed disappointment in the Spike Rush game mode leaving, others have shown excitement for the return of Heatseeker, and it is currently unknown which game mode will replace it after January 4. As players continue to enjoy the game’s newest music-themed season, it will be interesting to see what Psyonix has in store for Rocket League next.
Rocket League is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
