Devil May Cry: Every Devil Arm Used By Vergil Explained

Devil May Cry is an action hack and slash franchise that needs little introduction. Following the adventures of Dante, a devil hunter who is half-devil himself, as he stops the hordes of evil from affecting humanity. Embracing his human side as he defeats the likes of Mundus and other forms of demon. However, the opposite of that is his twin brother Vergil who values the power of his demon side. Although he appeared in the original Devil May Cry, he was really known for his appearances during the third and fifth entry. Easily becoming a fan favorite filled with memes and motivation.

Similar to his brother, he utilizes the same abilities from regeneration to incredible strength. However, his unique swordplay enables him to be vastly different from his twin. Right down to the different devil arms that he has used throughout the series. Here is every single weapon used by Vergil, the Alpha and Omega. Readers are warned of heavy spoilers.

6 Yamato

His most defining weapon throughout the franchise, the Yamato is one of the many mementoes that was left behind by his father Sparda. Yamato is a demonic katana that has the unique ability to cut through almost everything. Specifically, it can cut through space itself. Going into different dimensions however he sees fit.

Although other people have utilized the weapon before such as Dante or Nero. Vergil has always been the one that used the weapon to its greatest potential. Doing things from splitting his demonic and human halves in two, to doing the infamous judgement cut end. Vergil also fights using an Iaijutsu style which heavily contrasts his brothers more freeform swordplay.

5 Beowulf

During the events of Devil May Cry 3, Vergil was able to obtain the Beowulf devil arms which he used against his brother Dante. Killing the wounded demon of the same name, he later lost them due to events that happened during the story. These pair of gauntlets and greaves utilizes the power of light in order to lay devastation against the demons. Since then, this devil arm makes reappearances in the special edition versions of Devil May Cry 3-5 from Vergil specifically. Somewhat becoming one of the signature weapons that Vergil can use and is something that the character just wouldn’t be without in his gameplay style.

4 Force Edge

The sealed version of his father’s sword, this weapon was originally used in Devil May Cry 3 as a representation of what Arkham was looking for. To obtain Sparda’s power. However, by the final battle, Vergil briefly used the weapon in a way that is somewhat similar to his brother.

However, he also uses it in conjunction with the Yamato to create a moveset that is more than just a copy of Dante. Eventually, the weapon was passed on to his brother and it continued through the form of Sparda. However, force edge eventually made a reappearance through Devil May Cry 4. It didn’t reappear in 5, although it did take up a new form.

3 Nelo Angelo’s Greatsword

Although he is most remembered for his time in Devil May Cry 3, Vergil actually made his first appearance in the original game as the enemy Nelo Angelo. Acting as one of the many monsters that Mundus has either created or reshaped in his wake. As a boss character, Nelo Angelo fought similarly to Dante although he had elements that eventually translated over like the summoned swords.

However, because the Yamato was broken after his fight with Mundus, Vergil utilized a new sword instead. Created by the demon Machiavelli, Nelo Angelo’s greatsword is his devil arm of choice for the game. Although it doesn’t offer nearly as many unique benefits as the Yamato, Vergil is able to infuse his demonic energy into the blade. Creating a weapon of immense devastation.

2 V’s Cane

After Vergil split himself into two entities, the remaining elements of his humanity took the form of V. With very little demonic power left within him, he summons out his familiars who take on the appearance of enemies from the first game. Outside of that, he still utilizes a weapon in the form of his cane. Although it isn’t technically a devil arm, it contains metals that allows him to use his powers as a conduit. However, despite these qualities, there isn’t any true information whether or not V’s cane is definitively a devil arm, although it is definitely special. Regardless, the possibility of it allows it to at least be mentioned.

1 Mirage Edge

The weapon that replaces Force Edge during Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition, Vergil utilizes this weapon similar to the aforementioned weapon. Ever since he ate the fruit of the Qliphoth, Vergil’s power skyrocketed dramatically. Fighting equally against his brother who has become much, much more powerful since their last fight back in Mallet Island.

As a result, he is able to get himsefl a Sin Devil Trigger and all kinds of different abilities. That could potentially be how the Mirage Edge was created which is essentially a bigger summoned sword. Created straight out of his own demonic energy, Vergil uses it in exactly the same manner as the Force Edge. With a few new techniques like the Deep Stinger.
