The Boss Baby Sequel Has Officially Been Delayed | Game Rant

Universal and Dreamworks have made some more tweaks to their upcoming 2021 release schedule. While the company hasn’t given an official reason for the small adjustments, it’s a fairly safe bet that they are due to continuing uncertainty surrounding the abatement of the Coronavirus epidemic. One of the changes made was to the release date of The Boss Baby: Family Businesswhich will now come out later than originally expected.

As a sequel to the original The Boss Baby film, the movie was originally set for a March 26, 2021 release date. While this had initially seemed as though it would be beyond the range of the Coronavirus lockdowns, things don’t seem so cut and dry anymore. Despite the current vaccine rollout, the numbers have yet to stabilize, and it is unclear just how quickly the vaccine will actually bring down case numbers.

With that in mind, it’s still difficult to say whether people will be willing, or even able, to attend theaters in just a few months’ time. It is very possible that large public gatherings will still be limited in most of the world during the window, so the company has made the decision to push the film back, hoping to give it more breathing room away from the pandemic and lockdowns.

As such, the film has been given a September 17 release date, a spot originally held by The Bad Guys, which will be moving to 2022. As for the film itself, Tom McGrath returns to direct, and Alec Baldwin will also star as Ted Templeton alongside his brother Tim Templeton, played by James Marsden.

The basic plot is that since the original movie the two brothers have grown up, and have drifted apart. Tim is a married father, while Ted has become a hedge fund CEO. The two of them have lost their brotherly connection, but when a new Boss Baby shows up on the scene, they will reunite in unexpected ways, and discover the true meaning of family.

It’s all pretty familiar, and will no doubt be a successful family movie much like the first one, which also spawned a Netflix spinoff show titled Boss Baby: Back in Business. Hopefully, the rollout of the vaccine will start to make theater visits more reasonable, and the film won’t have to go through another delay.

The Boss Baby: Family Business will release on September 17th, 2021.
