Larry Hryb, aka Xbox Live’s Major Nelson, just posted a very interesting promotional limited edition Xbox Series X, but not perhaps what one would initially think. This Xbox Series X is actually an old fashion game of Jenga, broken up into wooden pieces of blocks. Stylistic and very much matching the design of Microsoft’s new powerful console, the Xbox Series X and Jenga mashup is not for sale, but Larry Hryb thinks it should be.
At first glance, the Jenga version of the Xbox Series X might be a scary sight to Xbox fans, as it looks like the very scarce Xbox Series X is sliced into a dozen pieces. But in fact, the Xbox Series X Jenga game is a different kind of gaming device, one that of course is designed to be taken apart. The stand up rectangular design of the Xbox Series X is very unique and something of a talking point, but once it is made into a Jenga game, it almost seems like it was supposed to be a Jenga game all along.
If Microsoft were to ever put a limited edition Xbox Series X Jenga on shelves, they probably wouldn’t be scalped and impossible to find like the real-deal Xbox Series X, but still would be a fun purchase.
Whether it be tabletop games that are then made into video games, or vice versa, there are a lot of great board games that are based on video games out there. An Xbox Series X Jenga game sitting on a shelf at home would seem to be a nice addition to that list.
Larry Hryb added some extra fun to the mix with a follow-up tweet, noting that some of the Jenga blocks had codes on them for Xbox Game Pass, the monthly subscription service that allows users to play all of Xbox first-party titles for free, along with plenty of other non-Microsoft games.
Larry Hryb included an image of one of the blocks, with a code in the follow-up tweet, but covered up the final character, making a game out of it for the followers. Of course, the Xbox Game Pass code was decoded rather quickly, and a lucky user was able to get a free subscription. If Microsoft and Jenga were ever to team up to make a special edition Xbox Series X Jenga game and sell it on its site as Xbox gear, it would be a nice little bonus to have a month’s worth of Xbox Game Pass on one of the blocks.
