Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: What Are Opals For? | Game Rant

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla takes an interesting approach to currency. Throughout their travels, players will collect silver, opals, raw materials, and supplies, and sometimes they’ll even be awarded with Helix Credits and other premium currency for completing certain challenges in the game. It can be difficult to keep track of what all this is for at first, and the game doesn’t explain opals in particular very well.

Opals aren’t a common resource in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla by any means. Players can find a ton of silver just by searching every bin, box, and barrel they find, but opals are much rarer. Typically, players will find a single opal lying amidst a horde of other treasures, and they can be very easy to miss.

Some players are finding themselves stocking up on opals without any idea of what they’re for and where to spend them. As it happens, they can be quite useful in obtaining the powerful weapons and armor of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, so it was definitely the right decision to collect them. There are also other ways to get opals faster that may interest players.

To answer what opals are for, they act as a sort of pseudo premium currency in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. They can’t be purchased with real money, but they can be spent at an in-game shop to get powerful and otherwise unobtainable items. In order to spend these items, players must grow their settlement until Reda, a young egyptian boy, comes to their settlement. He will explain to Eivor that he runs the Thousand Eyes, a secret merchant guild that trades in exotic items.

Players can obtain exclusive mythical gear, mythical mount skins, new tattos, and more from Reda if they trade him the required opals. Usually, these cost around 120 or 150 opals, so players will definitely need to save up before making a purchase. Reda’s shop is divided into two categories. Each day, the item sold in the top of his shop changes out, while the items listed below rotate every week. Understandably, this leaves many fans wondering where they can get more opals.

Aside from collecting them in the world, opals can also be earned from contracts, daily missions given to Eivor by Reda. These contracts are usually fairly simple (assassinate the target), but can at times be difficult. Completing contracts will award anywhere from five to 20 opals as well as some other materials. Players should be sure to do their two to three daily contracts every day if they want to buy anything from Reda’s shop.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
