Cyberpunk 2077 Has a Mortal Kombat Easter Egg | Game Rant

For those diligent enough to look past the numerous technical issues present within the game, Cyberpunk 2077 boasts an incredibly broad and impressive world for players to explore and discover. In addition to the memorable and stylized environments, Cyberpunk 2077 also features a cacophony of allusions to other games in the form of collectibles and Easter Eggs. One of the most memorable of which being an Easter Egg to one of the most famous fighting game franchises of all time.

The whole structure of the game’s narrative is obviously centered around the idea of a dystopic future, but a lot of Cyberpunk 2077’s finer story details are rooted in the past. For instance, there’s an Easter Egg based on GTA San Andreas featured in Cyberpunk 2077, despite having no real storyline reason to exist. Though, it’s clear that there’s many more Easter Eggs featured in the game that relate to other video games.

One of the in-game rewards for a successfully completed mission later in the game is a statue of one of the most iconic characters from Mortal Kombat, Scorpion. While the statue is labeled in-game as “Yellow Jacket Warrior”, the dual katanas, the gauntlet, the hood, the mask, and the yellow features all point to it being a nod to Mortal Kombat’s mascot character. The model itself is rather impressive, but it also shows a much more modernized version of Scorpion. It almost looks as though the model depicts a Cyberpunk 2077 version of the character.

For those looking to uncover this futuristic looking Scorpion, the mission where the statue unlocks occurs just after the player encounters Panam, one of Cyberpunk 2077’s romance options. Afterwards, Panam introduces the player to a number of her associates, including Mitch. Once the player speaks to Mitch, the Fly Me Away side quest will start and upon completion, the player will be awarded the Scorpion statue.

It’s nice that the game features so many different Easter Eggs outside of CD Projekt Red’s other titles. In addition to video games, Cyberpunk 2077 also features a number of Easter Eggs from popular movies, such as Demolition Man. It will probably take the Internet the better part of several months to find and catalogue all of the hidden details and references the game has to offer.

It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Cyberpunk 2077. Once all of the glaring technical issues are fixed for last gen consoles, the game should serve as a much more satisfying experience for players. In fact, starting in 2021, CD Projekt Red will presumably start rolling out free DLC for Cyberpunk 2077. Just another thing for Cyberpunk fans to look forward to.

Cyberpunk 2077 is on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions coming in 2021.
