Epic Games Store Launcher Issue Partially Fixed | Game Rant

The Epic Games Store Launcher has come under fire recently for putting an extra load on the CPUs of some PC users with more than adequate hardware. In response Epic Games released a hotfix that serves as a temporary solution, and it seems to be working so far.

The hotfix comes after complaints started surfacing online late last week about the Epic Games Store Launcher affecting the idle temperatures of PC rigs. A Reddit thread captures the developing situation as more and more PC users realize that the launcher is chewing up way more processing power than it should.

In the thread, multiple PC gamers claim that their rig temperatures drop by nearly 20 degrees when they disable the Epic Games Launcher, and that’s with some impressive CPUs like the AMD Ryzen 7 5800x. Others claim that especially on laptops, the launcher is eating up their battery life and possibly keeping the dGPU active indefinitely. After multiple days of gamers experiencing the issues, Epic Games’ Sergiy Galyonkin stated in a Twitter post on December 29 that the hotfix was live as version 11.0.2 of the Epic Games Store Launcher.

While the hotfix hopefully keeps the CPU load issues at bay, it won’t stop the complaints. PC gamers on Reddit voiced opinions ranging from deliberate malware on the launcher to the funnier theory that Epic Games might be using their launcher to mine some bitcoin. Whatever the reason for the issues, it doesn’t come at good time for Epic Games, the developers of the incredibly popular free-to-play battle royale game Fortnite.

The Epic Games Store is currently on the last days of an event offering a free game every day throughout the month of December. Some of the free games available have been the 2D side-scrolling adventure, Inside, and the first-person survival game, Stranded Deep. Today’s free game is supposedly the dungeon-crawler, Torchlight 2. Countless gamers have been taking advantage of the great event, so hopefully Epic Games can resolve the issue with the store launcher and PCs everywhere can relax and take a load off.
