Fate/Grand Order: The Complete 3 Star Servant Tier List

Fate/Grand order is an interesting gacha game full of dozens of characters. Each character has his or her own personality, skills, and benefits to playing them. Players can get caught up in rerolling and trying to pick out the perfect servants to fulfill their teams. Unlike many other gacha games, Fate/Grand Order actually has some great lower rarity heroes that can carry a team through certain missions and events.

3 star servants are not the lowest rarity in the game as there’re 1 and 2 stars. Players can also ascend lower star servants into 3 stars and above but that can be a large investment. Running 3 stars in a team at low levels can determine beating a mission or hitting a wall for weeks and grinding the higher rarity characters to absurd strengths. With the game updating soon in 2021, these are the best 3 star servants as of 2020, and why.

No 3 star characters push themselves into S tier because of their lack of certain abilities but these come close.

Mash Kyrielight is a servant the player receives from the beginning of the game. Her abilities may not seem great at first and her low rarity can be a big turn off for players seeking flashier servants. As the game progresses, her value becomes clear since she can grant invincibility to other servants and has no direct weaknesses to other classes.

Paracelsus von Hohenheim is another 3 star servant whose value comes from his ability to buff his fellow teammates. His ability provides an NP gain buff to an ally of his choice, allowing them to use their Noble Phantasm much quicker. Having an ability like this makes any 4 or 5 star much stronger, proving his worth on any team.

Antonio Salieri can deal big damage with AoE abilities and pairs well with arts based builds to gain NP quickly. His health and defense are relatively low, so a team has to be built around him in order for his strength to be useful.

Bedivere can deal great burst damage with his skills, but they only last 1 turn, meaning his sustained damage is nothing too special. His rarity isn’t low so it’s very easy to roll him from a gacha, and he’s worth investing time and materials into if there aren’t better or more niche options available.

Cu Chulainn is a fantastic addition to a budget team since he seems to never want to die. His combination of Guts, high evasion, and ability to get rid of debuffs make him a budget tank that refuses to go down. His damage is solid but nothing out of the ordinary so using him as anything but a backup is not recommended.

If the player runs an arts heavy deck, focused on building NP quickly, David is a good choice. David has high attack as well as good buff abilities. Since he has 3 art cards in his deck, he can chain NP well and use is Noble Phantasm often.

As far as niche characters with wide use goes, Euryale is paralleled only with Mash. Her abilities allow her to target male units with high bonus damage and binding their movements. Her use is mostly for certain bosses or events that feature male units specifically.

Gaius Julius Caesar continues the trend of 3 star servants having decent abilities for buffing party members and other little quirks. His main issue is that his health is low and he has no defensive skills to keep him alive very long. If he isn’t paired with a team that can buff his defense, he struggles to do his job well.

Jaguar Warrior is known for her damage output and explosive attacks. Her attack is great for certain builds and can hold a team together in certain situations but her skills have high cooldown and little use, making her a niche pick.

Lu Bu Fengxian is a capable berserker servant. He hits like a truck and has a great ability for dishing out even more damage. It is difficult for him to gain NP without supplementary help from his team mates, and since he’s a berserker, he’s prone to dying at seemingly random times.

Medea has a great value for many teams because of her ability to remove debuffs on command. Her Noble Phantasm ability also removes buffs from enemies which is practically necessary in certain boss fights of the later game. Her damage potential is nothing special but that can be made up for with any number of servants.

Okado Izo is a servant with another “slaying” type ability. His ability specifically targets humanoid type enemies. This paired with his assassin class makes him a great pick for certain events and challenges.

Another niche servant of Fate/Grand Order is Robin Hood. His potential comes from high damage conversions. His Noble Phantasm can deal tons of damage when placed on the right team dedicated to arts, but otherwise he isn’t worth using compared to more well-balanced servants.

Ushiwakamaru is the last member of the A tier. Her specialty is her ability to target riders with a high damaging Noble Phantasm. Like many other 3 star servants, she is important for creating viable free to play builds for higher level events and quests.

The main difference between the servants in A+ and A tier versus the ones in B tier is that they all require a bigger investment in team structure and strategy. This isn’t to say they’re worthless, since a lot of them actually are useful. A tier and A+ tier servants simply have more overall use and/or more potential.

Servants that stand out as useful from B tier are LeonidasKiyohime, Medusa, and Jing Ke.  Leonidas is a taunter who can get players through tough early boss content with his abilities and high sustainability.  Medusa has low damage, but is great at buffing NP power so she can be used in certain builds well.  Jing Ke is fantastic for steaming through early game content so she is recommended for beginner players.  Kiyohime is recommended because she is given to the player through the main story and can help with early game content since she is a strong berserker for free to play.

C tier servants can be viable when on the right teams. If the player has a character a tier higher than any of these, they should use them because C tier servants all have very obvious weaknesses. They’re also not recommended for beginners because it can be complicated to make them work properly.  Unless the player is running very specific free to play builds, most of these will never touch a team.

Romulus of C tier is recommended if the player does not have any other lancers with AoE abilities.  His AoE damage are the main attraction but otherwise, his weaknesses are too prominent to justify using him.  The other notable servant of C Tier is Cu Chulainn in caster form.  His skills are great but have no overall gameplan to help the player find synergy in what his role is supposed to be.  There are many other casters that are easily attainable that make better choices than him.

A tier full of servants with notable issues and flaws. These servants can perform under the right circumstances but it’s difficult to really make them work well. D Tier servants have their uses, such as Mephistopheles who can stop an enemy from using buffs on themselves. This ability proves useful in some events and boss fights, but other than that, he doesn’t do much.

E tier consists of a single servant, Gilles de Rais.  His design is interesting but disjointed. The abilities don’t seem to work well together, or with other servants to supplement him.  As if that weren’t enough, his skills have tremendous cooldown so the player can’t even use them too often and they only work against certain types of enemies.  Overall, he needs some fixes to become viable in any sense of the word.
