Everyone around the world is getting ready to celebrate the new year, but Microsoft has skipped ahead with plans for one of its services. The first two Xbox titles that are part of the January 2021 Xbox Live Games with Gold have released a day early, and both are available to download now from the Microsoft Store.
The new year has begun sooner than expected for Xbox users, as they can pick up the Xbox One game Little Nightmares and the Xbox 360 game The King of Fighters 13. Now it’s clear why Microsoft announced its January 20201 Xbox Free Games With Gold earlier than usual. Originally, these titles were set to be available on the January 1, but Microsoft has decided to push that date up slightly. The rest of the games scheduled for January are the Xbox One port of Dead Rising and the Xbox 360 game Breakdown, which will likely follow the original timeline and release on January 16.
Little Nightmares is a puzzle-platformer horror game that features a little girl in a yellow raincoat that has become fairly recognizable in gaming circles. Its gameplay shares similarities with the popular title Limbo, but its style has an almost Tim Burton-esque quality to it. The developer, Tarsier Studios, previously worked on LittleBigPlanet and it shows in the design. After it released, Little Nightmares scored positive reviews and even spawned a sequel. The other free game, The King of Fighters 13, is part of the long-running fighting game series by SNK that got its start back in 1994.
There’s a rumor circulating about another Microsoft service. According to one source, Ubisoft+ is heading to Xbox Game Pass in 2021, which isn’t a stretch considering EA Play was already added earlier this year. This information was part of a list of the 10 biggest rumors about Xbox that included exclusive titles and other possible announcements happening in the future. While there has been no official confirmations yet, adding Ubisoft+ would be a nice addition to an already solid service.
It’s been a big year for Xbox, and it seems that there’s a lot more in store for its consoles in 2021. The biggest thing to happen was the release of the Xbox Series X, the Microsoft’s next-gen console. As with all new consoles, the library of games is somewhat scarce. However, the collection of available games always becomes broader after some time, and next year will be bringing a lot of new titles. A slew of Xbox Series X games are planned for 2021 and include both first and third-party titles. Among them will be Hitman 3, the Prince of Persia remake, and the long-awaited Halo Infinite.
