Fortnite: IO Guard Locations and How to Eliminate Them

Season 5 of Chapter 2 brought with it a ton of changes to the usual Fortnite formula. In addition to new map locations to explore and guest characters like Master Chief and Kratos joining the fight, NPC characters also made their debut inside the Battle Royale. Once visited, many of these NPCs provide players with bounties and quests to complete ultimately rewarding important currency like gold bars which can be used to buy exotic weapons.

However, not all NPCs added this season of Fortnite are friendly. Players have come across a new NPC enemy type called Imagined Order Guards which have a chance of spawning around the map. Not only do these enemies pose a greater threat due to how aggressive they are once alerted, but their inclusion also makes things more difficult as they could show up at inopportune times during a firefights between players.

Not much is known about these IO Guards outside of the fact that they could be seen running the halls past Agent Jonesy during the season’s story trailer. Considering the main reward for eliminating these characters is simply a Tactical Assault Rifle, it may be better for Fortnite players to avoid them entirely. Here are the locations where they spawn.

As part of the week 5 set of challenges in Fortnite, players will need to eliminate these IO guards. In fact, the Legendary quest tasks players with taking out 50 in total, though the reward seems to match the difficulty, awarding 55,000XP once finished.

Thankfully, finding these guards is fairly easy as there are 20 set map locations where they can spawn from, rising out of the ground in buildings called Terminals. Players will want to hunt in the following locations:

  • Northwest and east of Holly Hedges
  • Northwest and Southeast Lazy Lake
  • Northern Coral Castle
  • Northeast Stealth Stronghold
  • Southwest Pleasant Park
  • All directions of Colossal Coliseum
  • North Steamy Stacks
  • North Misty Meadow
  • Hunter’s Haven
  • South Slurpy Swamp
  • West and eastern sections of Weeping Woods

Before deciding to take down these NPCs, players should be stocked up on health and shield items as well as decent gear. In addition, the best combat tactic would be to try and battle them from distance with a sniper rifle or some other weapon that excels at range. Not only does this keep them at a fair distance away, but the accuracy of these enemies appears to be lower at further distances.

It’s worth noting that these terminals don’t always have guards spawning. Players can sometimes come across loot, which is the better turnout even if the player was ready to take on these aggressive foes. As previously mentioned, players will typically see a Tactical Assault Rifle drop after winning the battle, though players who are able to knock them down can perform a shakedown to earn a scanner that shows the player where remaining IO Guards of their group are located. Make sure to finish them off as downed guards can be revived by other members of their group.

Fortnite is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
