Long-Time Call of Duty Streamer Calls it Quits | Game Rant

After seven years of video-making and streaming for fans, Call of Duty YouTuber TheSmithPlays is stepping away from his channel. Shocking his 3 million subscribers with a video titled “The End,” the popular influencer revealed his plans beyond the Call of Duty and Fortnite content he was known for.

In the video, the Call of Duty Zombies YouTuber makes it clear why he cannot go on with making content for TheSmithPlays channel. TheSmithPlays, real name Patrick Smith, has a very candid discussion with his fans about his fears regarding the passage of time. At age 25, TheSmithPlays shares his worries about wasting his short time on Earth, explaining that he has felt overwhelmed since losing the set schedule provided by high school and college.

Smith remarks “one thing they never tell you about becoming an adult… is that your time is just completely unstructured” near the start of the video, being honest about struggling with the unstructured time and how short life is. Further, he is equally honest about why he is leaving his channel behind. Originally not wanting to use the term since he feels it sounds “weak,” Smith admits that he is terribly burnt out when it comes to content creation. Beyond that, the YouTuber has been struggling to find an identity, explaining his jump to covering the popular battle royale Fortnite as “unfulfilling.”

While Smith recently took a few months away from his channel and returned ready to cover the newest installment of Call of Duty Zombies, his main channel focus and passion, he found that the spark for making videos was gone. While Smith praises Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s Zombies mode as “really great,” he has no interest in ruining his enjoyment of it by making videos. Smith says that the process of even thinking about content was something he started to dread, making his career a huge source of disappointment in his life.

With streaming and video-making becoming draining for the YouTube star, it makes sense why TheSmithPlays says he “can’t make content for this channel anymore” and is moving on. Ahead of huge Call of Duty Zombies YouTubers like MrDalekJD, MrRoflWaffles, and MrTLexify in terms of subscribers, TheSmithPlays is leaving a large community behind with his departure. Fortunately, fans will still be able to keep in contact with Smith by following his music and podcasting career, two passions he has been unable to properly explore until now.

With the goodbye video reaching YouTube’s trending page, TheSmithPlays was met with an outpouring of support from the Call of Duty Zombies community, with Smith receiving thousands of like and positive comments on his final video. Hopefully, Smith finds success in a new career that makes him happier than he was on YouTube in recent years.
