Apex Legends Update Will Make Using Ultimate Accelerators Much Easier

Apex Legends is getting a patch this week to coincide with the upcoming “Fight Night” collection event, following Pathfinder’s origin story being revealed in a new Stories from the Outlands video. While the update will be adding a boxing ring as a town takeover on Olympus and a new twist for the regular Play Apex format, some highly requested quality-of-life features are being added too, like an easier way to use Ultimate Accelerants.

The idea actually comes from a community suggestion for Apex Legends. For a while, players have been asking for a way to use Ultimate Accelerants without having to fumble through their inventory menu and waste precious seconds. Back in September, Reddit user Scumbag-Breeze got nearly 16 thousand upvotes for sharing this exact idea for using Ultimate Accelerants using a photoshop mockup.

Now, developer Respawn Entertainment has revealed in the patch notes for this new update that pressing both shoulder buttons when a player’s Ultimate is not ready will now use an Ultimate Accelerant in their inventory instead of nothing. This means players will now have a quick and easy way to use all in-game consumables (grenades, healing items, and ultimate accelerants) without having to open their inventory.

Other Quality of Life features being added in this update that have been highly requested include  a “mark all as seen” button for trackers, banners, skins, and all of the other items that can be unlocked. This feature also was pitched by the community, with another mockup post from Redditor TigerTankSniper garnering over 23 thousand upvotes. Other additions include marking all players as “not ready” in the event someone leaves the lobby and the pinging respawn beacons to be more accurate relative to ring locations.

One other equally demanded Quality of Life feature, while coming, won’t be making it into this update. Recently game director Jason McCord confirmed that an in-match damage tracker will be coming to Apex but not until Season 8 launches in a few weeks.

The launch of this update on January 5 will mean the end of the Winter Express LTM and Holo-Day Bash event, so those who wish to hear more of Mirage fumbling his way through being an announcer have just a few more days to do so. The reworking of this capture the train mode seems to have been a hit with fans, as the improvements to respawning and focus on getting players into the action faster worked very well.

Apex Legends is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Switch version also in development.
