Elden Ring was first revealed at Microsoft’s E3 2019 press conference with a teaser trailer that confirmed little beyond that it’s being directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki as part of a collaboration with Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin. So little has been revealed about Elden Ring since then that fans have started making their own lore about the game, as they have nothing else to talk about. However, evidence is starting to mount up that the wait for more Elden Ring news will soon be over, and that the game itself may actually launch at some point this year.
This is thanks to a string of recent Elden Ring leaks. According to the leaks, Elden Ring is basically done with development and is scheduled for release in 2021. This claim was recently backed up by reputable industry insider Okami, who has accurately leaked game industry news in the past. Okami not only reiterated the previous leak that the Elden Ring release date is in 2021, but also provided some new concept art for fans to look at as well.
The concept art shows two creatures that will be featured in Elden Ring. The first concept art is a warrior of some kind, armed with two shadowy swords, who was apparently seen in the Elden Ring reveal trailer. The second piece of concept art is much more grotesque, showing a serpent-like being with a human face and too many limbs. It isn’t specified if the second creature is an enemy in Elden Ring or an NPC players will interact with, so fans will have to wait for more information on that front.
Okami’s post included some other Elden Ring details that fans may find interesting. Apparently, Elden Ring‘s setting is based on Norse and Celtic mythology, with gameplay similar to FromSoftware’s Dark Souls series. This matches up with previous leaks that have also claimed that Elden Ring‘s gameplay will be similar to Dark Souls. However, there will apparently be a couple of key differences between Elden Ring and FromSoftware’s previous work.
One difference is that Elden Ring‘s map is “much larger” than Dark Souls. This also meshes with previous reports, and it will be interesting to see how that works in action. FromSoftware games have had large open areas, but they have often been treated as “hubs” as opposed to pure open worlds. Whether or not that’s the direction Elden Ring is going in remains to be seen, but it will be interesting to find out more. Meanwhile, Elden Ring‘s big world will also uses dynamic weather and will have a day/night cycle, so fans have that to look forward to as well.
Of course, Elden Ring fans should take this information with a massive grain of salt. While Okami has been the source of accurate game industry leaks in the past, it’s possible that this information is incorrect or certain plans have changed during development. Luckily, Elden Ring news has been teased for early 2021, so fans may find out sooner rather than later if there’s any truth to this particular leak.
Elden Ring is in development for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
