Classic Guilty Gear character Anji Mito is returning to the franchise for its twenty-fourth release, Guilty Gear Strive, and a new trailer was released to celebrate.
Guilty Gear Strive was originally supposed to release in 2020, but developer Arc System Works had to delay the game due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Now the game is set to release on April 9, featuring 15 playable characters with just two newcomers: close-range combat fighter Giovanna and vampire samurai Nagoriyuki. Anji Mito is the 14th character revealed, so it would be safe to assume the final character will arrive sometime between now and April.
The new Guilty Gear Strive trailer starts off by showing Anji Mito in a standoff with Chipp Zanuff before the fan-wielding master beats up on Giovanna, Sol Badguy, Millia Rage, Zato-1, and more. Fans responded in the comments of the trailer posted to youTube sharing their love for developer Arc System Works retaining his original moveset, as well as retaining his tiny glasses and shirtless style.
Guilty Gear Strive will release on April 9 for PS4 and Steam, but it was confirmed in October that Guilty Gear Strive will also be coming to PS5 as a free upgrade to owners of the PS4 version, with cross-play between the two PlayStation systems. This happens to make it the first all-new fighting game to release on next-gen platforms, an honor befitting the fighting game masters behind the Guilty Gear and Blaz Blue franchises.
Arc System Works just announced another new fighting game last week when it announced a partnership with Neople to develop a fighting game based on the Dungeon Fighter Online MMO universe. The game will be called Dungeon & Fighter Duel, or DNF Duel for short. The game does not have a release date, or many details announced for that matter, so fans should not be expecting it anytime soon.
Guilty Gear Strive will release for PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 on April 9, 2021.
