Hades Fan Builds Incredible Custom Arcade Cabinet | Game Rant

If there’s one thing that video game fans are good at, it’s creating large odes to the games they love. While that can manifest in a number of different ways, from artwork to fan-made video games and beyond, arcade cabinets are a rare but impressive way to express one’s love for a game. One Hades fan has taken that idea and ran with it, creating an impressive full-sized arcade cabinet based on the game.

Despite its small scope compared to some of last year’s triple-a games, Hades was consistently part of the conversation while talking about game of the year candidates, and while major titles like The Last of Us 2 beat it in many cases, Supergiant’s roguelike still managed to generate an impressive amount of media buzz. Twitter user @Mnewps has captured some of what makes the game special with their arcade cabinet design.

Judging off the photo, the cabinet is pretty large even by arcade standards, but it boasts some incredible Hades artwork. Around the edge of the display, some of the Greek gods featured in the game sit facing towards the screen. At the controls, Hades’ zones are set next to each other in a sort of gradient, each fading into the others. Perhaps the most impressive, though, is the title card at the top of the cabinet, which features the title and a portrait of Zagreus, the game’s protagonist.

Truly, the cabinet looks like it could be the real deal found in an arcade. Custom arcade cabinets aren’t unheard of, as they can be made with a Rasberry Pi and some technical know-how, but that doesn’t make the Hades cabinet any less impressive. It’s clear that a lot of hard work went into creating it. According to the poster, who also uploaded the image to Reddit, the cabinet was created with an Intel i5 processor and an Nvidia 1060. Essentially, the cabinet is just a “giant wooden computer case.”

That’s not an insane amount of hardware per se, but it’s definitely a decent amount of commitment for a single game. That being said, Hades has clearly had a lasting impact on people, so it’s understandable that someone would want to dedicate the hardware – and space – required to get the arcade cabinet up and running. Considering how much effort Supergiant put into Hades’ narrative, it’s pretty much guaranteed that the developers will appreciate seeing a fan create such an impressive piece dedicated to it.

Hades is available now for PC and Switch.
