Warzone: The 5 Best Changes After The Cold War Integration (& The 5 Worst)

The December 16th update was the biggest content drop since the launch of Call of Duty: Warzone. The update included a new (ish) map called Rebirth Island and thirty new guns. While the new content and guns were much needed, the update may have been premature. The integrated guns are completely different from the guns in Cold War‘s multiplayer, and nearly all of them are ineffective in Warzone.

Warzone players are wondering why the R-9 fire shotgun is still in the game. Where is the weapon balancing update that the game desperately needs? The huge amount of changes to the game would inevitable come with downsides, but the update brought far more issues than the community expected. After a quick update on December 17, Treyarch and Raven are at least being reactive to the criticism. The update was both good and bad, and players are hopeful that there are more patches to come.

10 Best: Rebirth Island Is Added To Warzone

For months, top professionals and streamers have been demanding changes to Verdansk. At last, players can queue into a new map. Rebirth Island is also a different battle royale experience, with a smaller lobby and fast-paced gameplay.

Players can be revived if their teammates stay alive, so teams can be down but not out. Another cool addition to the map is respawning loot boxes, which ensures that players can still find loot late in the match.

9 Worst: Verdansk Is Still The Same

Warzone players are happy to see the new Rebirth Island Map, but after a year, the community expects more. Rebirth island is essentially a reboot of the Alcatraz map from Black Ops 4.

Compared to Blackout in Black Ops 4, Infinity Ward did little to change the layout and aesthetics of the Verdansk map. Players hoped that more changes would come after the great content in the Halloween update. Even some simple cosmetic changes would be awesome. Unfortunately, players are stuck will the same map for the foreseeable future.

8 Best: Juggernauts Are Finally Gone

What began as a limited-time mode took over the game in the last month. Once Infinity Ward released the easter egg allowing players to get a specialist bonus and juggernaut every game, every lobby was plagued with at least one juggernaut.

Players tried airstrikes, clusters, and rocket launchers, but nothing was effective. Skilled players with a juggernaut were unstoppable; consequently, the game became lobby versus juggernaut. Finally, they are gone.

7 Worst: The Attachment System Does Not Work

The principal problem with the Cold War attachments is the lack of a viable suppressor. Almost every weapon build from Modern Warfare includes a monolithic suppressor, which suppresses the weapon and increases the weapon’s damage range.

Cold War weapons only have suppressors that decrease damage range. Players have to choose between appearing on the mini-map or doing less damage.

6 Best: The Mac-10 Is The Best SMG

The Cold War update introduced a new meta weapon, the Mac-10. It beats the prior SMG meta, the MP5, in every conceivable way. For the first time since the game’s launch, a new SMG is at the top of the pedestal.

Players have been anticipating a meta shift for a while and players can now use a new gun in Warzone. With an extremely high fire rate and drum magazine, the Mac-10 will be the meta SMG until an inevitable nerf.

5 Worst: The R-9 & Kilo Are Still The Meta

The R-9 needs to go. It has been months of mind-numbing doof doofs. How long do players have to wait for a nerf to the most overpowered gun since the Famas shotgun? It is surprising after the Grau and Bruen nerfs that the R-9 has been in the game for so long. The gun ruins close quarters encounters and makes breaching a building impossible.

The Kilo probably needs a slight downgrade as well, it has been the tournament weapon for the majority of professionals and streamers since the Bruen nerf. In general, the game needs serious weapon balancing and the player base will leave if the developers are not responsive.

4 Best: 30 New Guns In Warzone

Before this update, three new guns were introduced in each season. Players had grown tired of using the same loadout every match to try and keep up with the sweaty teams in Verdansk.

The update introduced 30 new guns to the game, which was an incredibly welcome addition. Performance aside, it is awesome to use weapons from a different era, and players would love to see similar content drops in the future.

3 Worst: The Cold War Weapons Are Broken

Mac-10 excluded, most of the Cold War weapons are not viable in the game. In addition, these guns do not have the same stats and recoil patterns as they do in Black Ops‘ multiplayer. It appears that the weapon models from Cold War were copied and pasted into Warzone and the guns were given completely different statistics.

Xclusive Ace, JGOD, and other prominent YouTubers have tested the damage values, recoil patterns, and bullet velocity of many of the guns and they are incongruent with the multiplayer weapons. It is understandable that some of the damage values have changed because players in Black Ops have 150 health as opposed to the 100 in Modern Warfare. However, something needs to change drastically for the Cold War guns to be usable in Warzone. The XM4, for example, has an incredibly slow bullet velocity, and, in most fights, it will lose to every gun in the game.

2 Best: New Ground Loot

Every new season, players look forward to the new ground loot weapons. Sometimes this can be a bad thing, with The Origin-12 being a prime example. In Season One of Warzone‘s Black Ops integration, Cold War guns are ground loot.

Players can get a feel for the new guns and enjoy a new gameplay experience. While the Cold War guns have issues, the new ground loot is a welcome change.

1 Worst: Leveling Guns Takes Far Too Long

Players that do not purchase Cold War will have a difficult time leveling up its weapons in Warzone. King Slayer trios was removed from the playlist, so players will have to jump into plunder trios to level up weapons.

To make matters worse, all of the weapon XP tokens from Modern Warfare were removed with the update, so players will have to complete more challenges to get new tokens. At the moment, players will have to grind for days to get the right attachments. Players can try to level weapons in resurgence trios, but good luck getting a loadout.
