CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 has been the subject of near-constant controversy and discussion since it released last month. Among the subjects that have risen to the forefront of conversation are the bevy of often-funny glitches throughout Cyberpunk 2077, from NPC models bugging out to vehicles sinking into the floor or cascading through the air.
With the game having released in an under-baked state, particularly on PS4 and Xbox One, there is no shortage of issues to comb through. There has even been a class-action lawsuit filed against CD Projekt Red’s parent company by investors claiming they were deliberately misled about the state of Cyberpunk 2077‘s development. However, one player has discovered that trying to mod the game can lead to an even more chaotic experience.
Australian modder Will “Wilburgur” Ramsay posted a clip to Twitter yesterday ringing in the new year with a montage of Cyberpunk 2077 NPCs exploding into literal chunks of meat after they tried modding the game. The creator does not specify what exactly they were trying to do, only saying “more tests needed.” However, there is something funny about the quick editing of its random explosions and the ensuing dialogue from nearby characters, all set to calming Animal Crossing music.
Ramsay began posting content to YouTube as Wilburgur in 2013, and has since amassed 440,000 subscribers who tune in to watch similarly chaotic experiences in open-world games from series such as Fallout and The Elder Scrolls. Whether or not they add Cyberpunk 2077 to this lineup remains to be seen, but the short Twitter montage suggests there is a lot of potential.
That being said, not everything regarding Cyberpunk 2077‘s launch has been fun for fans to run with. Around release, CD Projekt Red had to add seizure warnings to Cyberpunk 2077 after Game Informer’s Liana Ruppert wrote a PSA warning players that there were unskippable epilepsy triggers throughout the game. Its poor state of release and bad press has also led to CD Projekt Red issuing refunds on all major platforms, with Sony pulling the game off its PlayStation Store entirely.
Despite its host of controversies and bad press, the game still turned a profit and has received constant attention from CD Projekt Red as the development team aims to clean up the experience prior to its launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Cyberpunk 2077 will also start to release DLC “early” in 2021, so those who have been able to enjoy the game because of its bugs may get more to appreciate soon.
Cyberpunk 2077 is available now on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions in development.
