What to Expect from Elden Ring in 2021 | Game Rant

Without a doubt, From Software’s Elden Ring is one of the most anticipated games in development. There’s a slight touch of irony here, as aside from a few acknowledgements, nothing solid has been revealed since its E3 2019 trailer. However, a recent, quick update saw From Software say “see you in 2021!”

If nothing else, then 2021 won’t be another 2020. At the very least, Elden Ring has to appear somewhere, as the dedicated subreddit may only be able to deal with it ghosting them a time or two more. As such, here’s what to expect from Elden Ring throughout the new year.

There have been plenty of new Elden Ring leaks in the past couple of weeks, which may be a good sign for official information to come. At the same time, rumors are oftentimes just that: rumors. Fans of the game shouldn’t be much stock in that, instead waiting for something official to happen. Marketing for Elden Ring should begin soon, which means that throughout 2021, fans can expect the standard array of a game’s pre-launch. News regarding how the game plays, if it does indeed play like Dark Souls, story elements, and more should come a long way.

There’s also a special day likely to happen in 2021: a new Elden Ring trailer. Again, since there hasn’t been one since E3 2019, it’ll like go big to really cement the occasion. It’s uncertain if E3 is happening this year, but there’s a solid chance that there, if not before then, houses a lot of this information.

Because From Software usually reveals a game then moves straight into release, Elden Ring is in an odd spot being revealed back in 2019. There’s a solid chance that COVID-19 impacted this somehow, but reports indicate that the game’s core development is done and it’s just in the polish stage. Of course, that remains to be seen. But, if marketing for it happens this year, there’s a solid chance that Elden Ring releases this year, as rumors purport. At the very least, the marketing could reveal a release date.

Fall 2021, if not Spring 2022, seem like possibilities. But with Elden Ring, just as fans dive into fake lore for it, anything is possible.

There’s one key thing to keep in mind: what if marketing doesn’t begin? If Elden Ring doesn’t make at least an appearance or two, if more information about the game doesn’t surface, it’s not outside the realm of possibility that Elden Ring sees another year of silence. It is highly, highly, highly unlikely, but fans waited event and event in 2020 for nothing to come of it. Notably, this would contradict From Software’s recent updates and would be off-putting since Phil Spencer has reportedly played Elden Ring.

Chances of this are very slim, but with rumors, speculation, and no official information to go on, Elden Ring fans have likely learned a lesson in managing expectations. This becomes even less if one single thing comes out, and hopefully, this proves to be a senseless fear in the back of the mind.

Elden Ring is in development, with PC, PS4, and Xbox One as confirmed platforms.
