Throughout the Assassin’s Creed Valhalla story, players explore various locations as the protagonist Eivor. While most of the plot occurs in areas based off real-life locations during the golden age of Vikings, there are a select few places lifted directly from Norse mythology. One of these fantasy side realms is Asgard, the legendary home of the gods.
Asgard is an optional area that only unlocks once players get their Valhalla settlement level to 3, and the Seer’s Hut is constructed with enough materials for Valka. Eivor will then get a potion from a follow-up quest which transports them directly to Asgard. While questing in this realm will give background into the various gods and legends, eventually players will want to leave and resume progressing the main story. Thankfully, returning home only takes a few steps outlined in this guide.
To open the way back, players must complete the View Above All quest in Asgard. Head to the Great Hall via the synchronization point and nearby teleporter. Players can then choose one of three gods to accompany them on the quest: Thor, Tyr, or Freyja. It doesn’t matter which god is picked, since the only thing that changes is minor dialogue during cutscenes.
After heading to the next objective, cross the rainbow bridge and make sure to avoid many Jotun forces locked in battle with Asgardian soldiers. At Heimdall’s Tower, Thor will appear regardless of the previous choice and instantly smites some Jotuns standing in Eivor’s way. Continue climbing up the steps until a Jotnar-Guld blocks the giant gate. Defeat it while dodging the slow spear swipes and press the Close Door prompt to seal the portal. With the Jotun threat neutralized, turn around and talk with Loki to complete the quest.
Though the Asgard storyline can immediately be continued, the ability to leave Asgard is now also unlocked. Players only need to open their map and scroll over to Heimdall’s Tower where an eye is now visible. Hold down the Wake Up prompt and following a short loading period Eivor will return to reality inside Ravensthorpe.
Because the power of Asgard quests may be too much for players that stumble into it early on, being able to leave at will following the quest ensures no one is stuck grinding or being forced to restart from an earlier Assassin’s Creed Valhalla save. Fortunately, this doesn’t lock future visits to Asgard, since drinking from the same potion inside the Seer’s Hut will bring players back right where they left off.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
