Cyberpunk 2077: How To Complete The Tapeworm Questline

Love it for what it tried to do or hate it for its controversies, no one can deny that Cyberpunk 2077 was one of the largest releases in 2020. Players have been digging deep into the large number of gigs available in the game to see what kinds of stories they have to offer.

The decisions players make during quests can affect the end of the game and even gigs can have effects that ripple outward depending on what players decide to do. The Tapeworm questline allows players to potentially unlock a special side gig called Chippin’ In that players won’t want to miss.

6 The Tapeworm Questline

Going through the Tapeworm Questline is relatively simple. Johnny Silverhand will try to speak to the player due to their relic malfunctioning slightly. He will have conversations with players at the end of the following questlines:

  • Automatic Love
  • Transmission
  • Life During Wartime
  • Search and Destroy

All players have to do is make sure to pick the blue dialogue options to keep talking to Johnny as long as possible. This not only helps unlock this questline but is honestly far more fun than ignoring Johnny anyway.

At one point, V will blackout due to the relic malfunctioning and wakes up near a hotel in Pacifica. Players then can follow Johnny to find a secret room and be rewarded with Johnny’s Tank Top.

5 Unlocking Chippin’ In

Players who have been kind to Johnny during all of these conversations will now have the option to unlock the Chippin’ In questline. Johnny will ask the player if they are willing to let him take over their body so he can get revenge on Adam Smasher. Players that refuse will then talk about their plans to meet Rogue and begin the main job Nocturne Op55n1. However, if players allow Johnny to take over their body, the Chippin’ In questline begins.

4 Choose A Tattoo

Once players call up and meet with Rogue at the Afterlife and take some of Misty’s pills, they will be able to play as Johnny Silverhand himself! Shortly after a conversation is had, players will have their first major choice in the quest: which tattoo to get from Cassius Ryder.

Players will have a choice between a goat tattoo or “the other one” and while it doesn’t actually affect much of anything, we recommend not choosing the goat tattoo. “The other one” is far cuter and has a heart with an arrow with “Johnny + V” in the center.

Players aren’t just here for a tattoo however, they’ll need to get information from Cassius to help track down Smasher for their revenge. Afterward, players will wake up feeling sick in a hotel next to Rogue, who will ask them for a bit of time before hunting down Grayson, who’s needed to be found before players can get their hands on Smasher.

3 The Ebunike

After players are able to reunite with Rogue, they will need to track down a ship called the Ebunike. To get there, players will have to carefully sneak through an area guarded by the Maelstorm Gang. Stealth is key, players that go in guns blazing will find themselves on the pavement before they know it.

From here, players will be able to find the location of the Ebunike. Players will adventure through the ship until they reach the bow of the ship where Grayson is located. After taking his gun (more info on that later) players will have the opportunity to ask where Smasher stashed Johnny’s body.

After getting the information, players are once again presented with another major choice: to kill Grayson or not to kill Grayson. Either way, whichever choice players choose allows them to get the Porsche 911 so players don’t need to think this one over too hard, though not killing Grayson makes getting the car easier.

2 Chippin’ In Rewards

Players who complete Chippin’ In will get far more than just 143 experience points. Players will be able to get a ton of Johnny Silverhand’s gear. This includes his car, the Porshe 911, his gun, the Malorian Arms 3516, and a replica of his samurai jacket. The iconic power weapon is particularly powerful and will be displayed in the player’s storage at their home if it is placed there once acquired.

1 The Oil Fields

From here, players have the option to head to the Oil Fields where Johnny’s body has been laid to rest. The player will inscribe Johnny’s name on a metal sheet. Then, the player will have the opportunity to talk to Johnny. Players that want to unlock the Blistering Love sidequest (which unlocks certain endings for the game) will need to make sure they pick all the correct dialogue options.

  • [Inscribe Johnny’s initials]. Let’s do something about that.
  • The Guy who Saved My Life.
  • Nah. F***ed that up too.
  • What do you want from me?
  • OK. But as second chances go, this is your last.
  • You were a real **** in the beginning.
  • When you said you let down your friends…
  • Smasher biz really got to her.
  • Yeah. I’ll call Rogue.

Doing this completes the quest and opens up the Blistering Lover questline. We absolutely recommend unlocking this questline as it offers a deeper look at Johnny Silverhand and who doesn’t want to know Keanu Reeves a bit better?
