Perks in Cyberpunk 2077 are meant to enhance the gameplay experience for the player, giving them a way to boost their character’s power level. Unfortunately, one perk in the game appears to open players up to a new way to die.
A new clip on the Cyberpunk 2077 subreddit shows that players using The Rock, a perk deep into the Body tree, will instantly die if they are hit by a motor vehicle as a pedestrian. Considering that the Body tree is supposed to make the player character an unstoppable juggernaut, it does seem quite silly that one of its deeper perks can also get the player killed instantly by just crossing the street.
In the clip, the player demonstrates how The Rock perk causes him or her to sustain lethal damage when a car hits them. First, the Cyberpunk 2077 player willingly walks into traffic without the perk equipped, sustaining 64 damage and getting knocked down for a few seconds. However, the player then goes into the Body tree, equips The Rock perk, and walks into the exact same car that he was just hit by. The audience sees the player’s health bar instantly drop from 385 to 0 and the death screen appears. By changing this single perk and nothing else, the player took more than six times the damage he had before.
The Rock perk prevents enemies from knocking the player’s character down, which seems simple enough and is a useful perk for players engaging in hand-to-hand combat. It can be especially helpful in completing the Beat on the Brat questline, which sees V going through a series of five melee fights throughout Cyberpunk 2077‘s Night City.
The perk is also extremely useful when the player has to face off with Sasquatch during the I Walk the Line mission. Sasquatch is a very powerful melee bruiser who wields a giant hammer and can dash onto V almost instantly. She can knock the player down with ease and infect them with viruses, making it all the more challenging to defeat her. The final use for the Rock is when encountering some Cyberpsychos, as a lot of the Cyberpsychos have increased strength thanks to their cybernetic implants, which means that they can knock the player down easily as well.
The Rock prevents enemies from knocking V down, but how does that explain the character being killed when hit by a car? It seems that the issue is that the perk prevents V from being knocked down at all, which causes a glitch in Cyberpunk 2077.
Because the car cannot knock down V, the clip shows that it simply appears to pass through him or her. In fact, observers are able to see V just go through the inside of the car before dying. Whatever the reason for the glitch, it certainly is an ironic way for a player who has invested so many points into creating a physically strong character to die. Although The Rock perk is useful in a few quests, hopefully, players will remember to unequip this perk before crossing the street.
