Demon’s Souls‘ character creation is incredibly detailed, and for the first time in Souls history, players can make an attractive character without putting in too much effort. Because of this and other reasons, many have found themselves making an excess of characters. One might be restarting a character in order to try and beat the Vanguard Demon in the tutorial or simply for the fun of it.
Naturally, as characters begin to pile up, Demon’s Souls players are going to want to delete them. Each character takes up unnecessary space on the PS5’s SSD and it can make sifting through characters when loading the game a hassle. With the PS5’s already limited space and the convenience of other new features in Demon’s Souls, there’s got to be a way, right?
Strangely enough, Bluepoint Games did not include a way to delete characters on Demon’s Souls for PS5. Seeing as there’s really no feasible explanation for this, it must have been an oversight on the part of the developers. With all the great things about Demon’s Souls, most fans can forgive this lapse in judgement, but it is strange nonetheless.
More likely than not, Bluepoint Games will go in and patch this feature in at some point or another. Every other Souls game in the series, including the original Demon’s Souls, allowed players to delete their characters, so it makes no sense that this wouldn’t be fixed eventually. Even outside of the endeavors mentioned above, some players start a character and grow tired of them, there’s no reason why they should have to keep the save file.
All that said, there is one way to delete characters in Demon’s Souls, though it’s not a pleasant one. In the system settings of the PS5, players can navigate over to storage and find where all save files are stored. Deleting the Demon’s Souls saved file will do the trick, but it will delete all characters in the process. Any presets that the player had saved will also be gone, and settings for the game will all revert back to default. Obviously, this isn’t the answer most are looking for, but it could be helpful to those just starting out.
If the issue is purely one of appearance, players should remember that they can change their character’s appearance at the Nexus. It’s an expensive endeavor, costing 25,000 Souls the first time players use the Statue of Reflection and 18,000 Souls on subsequent uses, but it allows players to re-enter Demon’s Souls‘ expansive character creation menu. This is also a great way to change gender and gain access to gender-locked gear.
Demon’s Souls is available now on PS5.
