December 15th saw the arrival of Grand Theft Auto Online’s most recent update, The Cayo Perico Heist, which saw the addition of many different items and features. These include tons of new clothing and customization options, as well as radio stations, vehicles, and weapons. Perhaps the biggest additions to come from the update were the additions of an all-new location, the island of Cayo Perico, and its heist.
Despite Grand Theft Auto Online players having access to the private island paradise, access is given only when players are taking part in heist missions. Though Rockstar never explicitly stated they would include such a feature, some have theorized that it could be to prevent griefing or to prevent a split player-base. Whatever the case may be, many players have expressed disappointment in their inability to explore the island in free roam.
To get around this, some players have discovered an exploit that prevents El Rubio’s men from attacking them and any friends that they invite. GTA Online players are no strangers to utilizing exploits in-game, and this one is no different. When done correctly, players will be free to roam around the island with friends without the threat of being gunned down.
To start, players need to first own a Motorcycle Club or be the CEO of a business then complete the Cayo Perico scope out mission normally. Players will then load it up a second time, where they’ll be told to head to Los Santos airport. Once there, players will want to hover over a CEO or Motorcycle Club request. As they enter the marker to begin the cutscene, players will need to request the job, then upon spawning at Cayo Perico, request a contact job.
After requesting the contact job, players will then quit the job and head to the beach party. If done correctly, the game will assume any players are still partying at the beach, opening the island up for exploration.
Although players will find their options for exploration have increased exponentially, this method isn’t particularly useful for any surprise attacks. As noted by Reddit user MrBossFTL3822, the guards are in Godmode, making it impossible to kill them. Additionally, this exploit doesn’t open up access to the heist itself, making it mostly a cosmetic pleasure for players to enjoy.
Fans of Grand Theft Auto Online likely aren’t in any rush for this exploit to be patched and are especially apprehensive regarding the anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6. In the aftermath of Cyberpunk 2077’s underwhelming performance, fans have requested that Rockstar take its time in developing the next installment in the series. With the massive content drop of The Cayo Perico Heist, it’s clear that Rockstar plans to take its time in moving onto the next major storyline.
GTA Online is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X and S versions to be released later this year.
