One of the most popular features that the PlayStation 5 brings to the table is its DualSense controller. The PS5 DualSense controller has earned near-universal acclaim so far, with particular praise given to its haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. The PS5 DualSense controller has been so well-received that even Xbox has taken notice, and if a new survey is any indication, it’s possible Xbox fans will have their own version of the controller at some point in the future.
A new survey aimed at Xbox Series X owners asks if they are aware of the DualSense controllers and if they want a controller like that for the Series X. This seems to be Microsoft testing the waters and seeing if there is any legitimate interest in a DualSense-like controller from its fanbase. However, this doesn’t mean that Xbox is legitimately going to make its own version of the DualSense, so fans should keep their expectations in check.
If Microsoft did make its own version of the DualSense controller, it wouldn’t be all that surprising. Head of Xbox Phil Spencer has praised the PS5 DualSense controller, so those in charge of the Xbox brand are clearly impressed with it. But even if the results of the survey indicate that Xbox gamers want a DualSense-like controller and even though Phil Spencer is clearly impressed with it, it remains to be seen how long it would take to get one out in the wild.
Microsoft puts a lot of work into designing its controllers, and even though the Xbox Series X controller is very similar to the Xbox One controller, it is no exception to that rule. If Microsoft were to move forward with an Xbox Series X controller that’s similar to the DualSense, it could take years before it’s designed and shipped out to the masses. Then again, it’s also possible that Microsoft will hotshot the controller and get it out the door as quickly as possible.
With only a survey to go on, it’s hard to predict how quickly Microsoft may be wanting to move on getting its own version of the DualSense on the market. Instead it may want to focus its efforts on promoting some of the premium controller options that it currently has, like the Xbox Elite Controller. The Xbox Elite Controller is very expensive when compared to standard Xbox Series X controllers and PS5 DualSense controllers, though, so it has comparatively limited appeal.
Over the years, Xbox will iterate on the Series X hardware, and there’s no reason why that can’t include the controller as well. Whether or not the Xbox Series X ever gets a controller that functions like the PS5 DualSense controller remains to be seen, but it will be interesting to see what happens.
