People Can Fly’s Outriders is set to be one of the studio’s most ambitious projects to date, having been in development for over five years at the time of this writing. The highly-anticipated Outriders was set to launch on February 2, but now it’s been announced that fans will have to wait a little bit longer to play the final product. People Can Fly has confirmed that the Outriders release date has been delayed by two months.
The new Outriders release date is April 1, 2021. People Can Fly explained that it will be using the extra development time to better-polish the game, with the goal of “delivering a fantastic play experience” when it comes on April 1. While those who were looking forward to Outriders may be disappointed by this news, the bright side is they won’t actually have to wait until April 1 to get their hands on the game.
People Can Fly has confirmed that Outriders is getting a substantial free demo on February 25. The demo will allow players to access all of the Outriders classes as well as play the game in both single-player and co-op. The exact scope of the content the Outriders demo will entail has not been specified, but People Can Fly said that it will give players access to the “first few hours of the game.” Better yet, the progress players make in the Outriders demo will carry over to the full game once it launches on April 1.
Usually when a game like this is playable before launch, it’s in the form of a beta that doesn’t keep players’ progress when the final game comes out. Since players won’t be wasting their time by playing the Outriders demo, it may make it a much more appealing prospect. The Outriders demo also demonstrates clear confidence in the product on the part of People Can Fly, as it is effectively giving players a free taste of the game hoping that they will come back for more once the full version is available.
If People Can Fly felt as though the Outriders demo would turn people away, one would think it wouldn’t bother with it and instead take its chances on launch day. However, the studio stressed that it believes it is important for players to experience a new IP prior to launch so that they can determine whether the game is something they want to pre-order or purchase. It’s a very consumer-friendly move and will undoubtedly win the developers some brownie points with fans.
Outriders gameplay previews have been mostly positive so far, and People Can Fly is clearly confident in the game. Fans can try it for themselves when the free Outriders demo goes live on February 25.
Outriders launches April 1 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X, with a Stadia version also in development.
