While Reaper may be a terrifying sight for tanks in Overwatch matches, players may need to be keeping an eye out for the DPS character in real life too. One Overwatch cosplayer has brought Reaper into the real world, though the skin being worn by the fan is not actually obtainable in-game.
Redditor My-Lil-Pwny decided to do something special with their Reaper cosplay, looking at a fan-made Overwatch skin concept as opposed to remaking one of Blizzard’s official skins for Gabriel Reyes. Created by Diego Fonteriz, the skin looks like a more detailed version of the Hellfire costume for Reaper, and My-Lil-Pwny seems to have put a lot of effort into bringing the devilish skin concept to life.
The Hellspawn Reaper skin looks just as good in real life as it does in the original concept art, and My-Lil-Pwny has captured every detail brilliantly. Like other great Overwatch cosplays, the most important aspects of a skin’s design receive the most attention. Reaper’s mask, for example, is incredibly accurate to the one created by Fonteriz, with the only difference being a lack of glowing eyes. The horns on Reaper’s head and shoulder both look great as well, with the cosplayer sporting a red version of the hero’s iconic hood.
While Reaper will surely get some cool skins in the upcoming Overwatch 2, it will be hard to top this design. While My-Lil-Pwny was given the hard task of making the skin concept’s complex armor pattern work on a wearable piece of clothing, they did a fine job — particularly with the gauntlets, boots, and belt worn by Reaper. Another part of the concept that was captured perfectly in the cosplay is Reaper’s cloak, as the fan remembered to make sure it was singed and boasting a different color at the bottom.
Finally, as is the case with most top-tier Overwatch costumes, a detailed weapon replica is shown off by My-Lil-Pwny. Boasting a Borderlands-like cel-shaded style like the rest of the outfit, Reaper’s shotguns fit perfectly with the rest of the look. Boasting the same red color scheme as the rest of the cosplay, as well as orange vents that help the weapon resemble its original appearance in the skin concept, the design is complete. My-Lil-Pwny’s Reaper costume is not only one of the most unique, but also one of the best, and the cosplayer is deserving of all the praise thrown their way in the comments.
While the character of Reaper could certainly benefit from seeing some character development in Overwatch 2, it remains unclear if Blizzard will give the former Blackwatch leader any attention in the sequel. However, even if Blizzard does not, it seems like Overwatch’s lively cosplay community will continue to show Reaper plenty of love going forward.
Overwatch is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
