There are a lot of powerful Pokemon up for grabs in Pokemon GO this week thanks to the Unova Celebration event, but perhaps the most meta relevant is available thanks to the limited time 5-star Battle Raid available this week. Genesect is back in the top tier spot and this time the Legendary is equipped with Burn Drive to make it even more appealing.
Although Genesect has been a Battle Raid boss in the past, a lot has changed over the last few months in the world of Pokemon GO. New Pokemon and evolutions have been releases and the addition of Mega Evolutions has also completely reshaped the PvE landscape. That means there are lots of different counter options compared to the last time Genesect was available and players will likely want to revisit their saved counter lineup and make some changes to optimize the the lineup for this week’s battles.
Genesect is a pretty powerful Legendary Battle Raid boss, which means that trainers will need to take some time to prepare a proper counter roster before heading into the big fight. Genesect is a Steel- and Bug-type, which makes its primary weakness Fire-types. Some of the top players will be able to duo Genesect this week with the right weather and Friendship bonuses, but the average players should stick to groups of around four or more players to ensure a successful attempt that guarantees an encounter.
Charizard (Mega Y) – Fire Spin/Blast Burn
Charizard (Mega X) – Fire Spin/Blast Burn
Reshiram – Fire Fang/Overheat
Houndoom (Mega) – Fire Fang/Flamethrower
Chandelure – Fire Spin/Overheat
Darmanitan – Fire Fang/Overheat
Moltres – Fire Spin/Overheat
Darmanitan (Standard) – Fire Fang/Overheat
Entei – Fire Fang/Overheat
Blaziken – Fire Spin/Blast Burn
Heatran – Fire Spin/Flamethrower
Charizard – Fire Spin/Blast Burn
Flareon – Fire Spin/Overheat
Infernape – Fire Spin/Blast Burn
Ho-Oh – Incinerate/Fire Blast
As always, keep in mind that this list represents the very best counters for the Battle Raid, but players shouldn’t feel too nervous if they can’t make up a counter roster based on the list. If these Pokemon and move sets are not an options, simply stick to the Fire-type Pokemon with Fire-type moves that are the strongest available. Be sure to take both total CP and IV (or star rating) into consideration when determining which Pokemon are strongest from what is available.
As trainers continue working through these amazing events and enjoying the new era of the GO Beyond update, they may want to keep hunting down the best Unova Pokemon in the game if improving their Battle Raid rosters and completing their Pokedex is their primary goal. Be sure to check back in the near future for more Pokemon GO strategy guides, news, and updates. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
