Following the classic formula of its series, the story of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla takes a dive into the supernatural in its later acts. Building the Seer’s hut in Ravensthorpe allows Eivor to transport to Asgard. However, the realm of the gods is a dangerous place in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, and The Builder is one of its more interesting boss fights.
The Builder is a giant from Jotunheim, the realm of the frost giants. He tricked his way into Asgard in disguise, promising to build a shield to protect Asgard from Ragnarok. However, Eivor can expose his true plan: to seal the Asgardian’s within their home. Once exposed, players will have to take on The Builder on the ground-floor of his own tower.
The Builder’s boss fight in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is split into two phases. In the first phase, the giant is fairly predictable, using only a few basic moves. His main attack will be with his huge hammer, which he can swing around and over his head. Whenever he performs the second move he will leave a small glowing spot on the ground. This can be interacted with to grant a bonus to attacks, as well as a chance to stun. He also has a foot stomp, but it’s well-telegraphed and quite easy to avoid.
The Builder’s final phase one attack is a magical spell that can throw Eivor into the air. This is telegraphed by the giant raising his hammer, and a marker appearing by Eivor’s feet. Although this attack can be dodged in classic Assassin’s Creed style, it’s actually a good opportunity to hit his weak spot.
The Builder’s weak spot is his head, and while in mid-air players can fire at it with one of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla‘s powerful bows. This will not only do extra damage, but it will also disorientate him, allowing Eivor to get off a few low-risk melee combos.
Once The Builder reaches 50% remaining health, he’ll shift into the second phase following a brief cutscene. In this phase, he adds a second magical spell to his arsenal, which traps Eivor in a circle with him. Players can either run around the edge of the circle to avoid his attacks until it despawns, or continue to fight normally. The latter option is trickier, and will require a lot of skill with Assassin’s Creed Valhalla‘s combat system. Players who keep aiming for the head, grabbing the orbs, and avoiding the larger attacks will be able to easily defeat The Builder once and for all.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
