It’s the one thing that Call of Duty: Warzone players have been talking about since the integration of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War guns into Warzone, the DMR. The gun is in almost every player’s hands right now because it is, without question, the most powerful in the game. The DMR was just nerfed in Warzone in a recent update because of how thoroughly it took over the meta of the game but after trying the “new” DMR out, a number of players have some opinions about the supposed nerf.
With such a massive player base with a thirst for new content, the developers behind Warzone are always under pressure to deliver. The stress that causes leads to a game that, at times, feels like it is barely hanging on to the code that holds it up. New guns drop and are overpowered because they aren’t play tested properly, or a new feature leads to a game-breaking glitch. There are a number of glitches in Warzone that need to be addressed, but sometimes they are difficult to get a handle on. Nerfing a weapon tends to be a little easier to address.
In Call of Duty: Warzone, the DMR-14 is a tactical rifle that has a quick rate of fire and had the potential to drop a player with just 2 shots to the head from any distance. The nerf changed that to 3 shots, but a number of players have said the nerf doesn’t go far enough. A number of pro players and streamers noticed a difference, and said the game felt better, but for the average player, it still hits a little too hard. Call of Duty pro Nadeshot is firmly in the “not enough” reaction camp, saying “The DMR better be nerfed into the ground…”
The player base is passionate about Warzone, which is a good thing, but it means that there are a lot of hot takes when an update drops. The developer that has handled the integration of Black Ops Cold War into Warzone, Raven Software, is working to keep the weapons balanced, and that might take a few updates. There are certainly larger issues in Warzone that really affect the quality of play in the game, such at the new Warzone cheat that lets pros play in beginner lobbies.
This came hot on the heels of a Call of Duty: Warzone companion app which showed players the average kill/death ratio of all other competitors in a match. Leading to players dipping out to find an easier lobby. Call of Duty: Warzone is a game that is always in progress. It’s going to take a while to get it just right, and even then, some of the player base won’t be satisfied.
Call of Duty: Warzone is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
