Believe it or not, the history of Virtual Reality goes back to the 1990s. However, after 2010, the whole motion and virtual reality started merging into one another, bringing rise to the VR people know today. As advanced as it looks, this technology is still in its baby phase, and there’s a long way to go to make it efficient. But that doesn’t mean that there aren’t good games that can be enjoyed on the best virtual reality headsets available today.
In fact, there are games of all kinds that can be played in virtual reality, from action to RPGs. However, something about simulation games really brings out the feel of VR to the gamers.
10 Job Simulator (71)
If we talk about some good simulation games on VR, there has to be some with the title “simulator” in them. After all, there’s this trend of making everything a simulation from bees to birds, even if it’s not needed. However, Job Simulator isn’t one of those typical games which force the word simulator in them. It’s a VR title that actually merges some imaginative ideas, decent gameplay, and most importantly, a fun experience.
9 Eve: Valkyrie (71)
While an odd entry on the list, this multiplayer dogfighting shooter game is a vehicular combat simulation title on VR. Eve: Valkyrie is best known to be set in the famous Eve Online universe. It’s a great game to experience in VR because of its environments and gameplay. It’s one of those few multiplayer games that are actually fun on the VR, next to Star Wars: Squadrons, another great VR title to experience.
8 Boneworks (72)
Here’s a VR exclusive title that makes good use of the motion controls and provides fun gameplay. Boneworks is a good playing realistic gun simulator. It has a really powerful physics system, thanks to the power of the Unity engine. The gunplay and environment are the real heroes of this title, which is why almost everyone who has played the game adores its complexity. The game has received a good Metascore, but the Steam and Metacritic user score tells the real story.
7 Everybody’s Golf VR (74)
Talking about Playstation 4, it’s obvious that there are some good games on the PSVR. Otherwise, why would anyone purchase it? But what’s funny is that one good VR game on the console is a sports title.
Luckily, it’s not the one that forces players to exercise or move their bodies a lot. It’s a golf simulator. Everybody’s Golf VR is fun to play, a title that takes the best parts about golf and brings them to virtual reality. This means peaceful environments, precise gameplay, and a relaxing ambiance.
6 Star Trek: Bridge Crew (75)
Space simulators are pretty much great games to play on VR. After all, these are the environments that people don’t usually experience in real life. However, Star Trek: Bridge Crew isn’t just any other space sim. It’s an action-adventure Star Trek experience. The game is a great one for the fans to experience, but moreover, it is great for even the gamers who aren’t too much into Star Trek.
5 Keep Talking, And Nobody Explodes (77)
Here’s one that has overwhelmingly positive reviews on Steam as well as Metacritic. Keep Talking, and Nobody Explodes a simple game that focuses on local co-op and hand-eye coordination. The game is available on mobile and other devices, and the VR version is just as good. This game is sort of like those physical puzzles some people try to solve and collect. However, the whole concept of defusing the bomb is what makes this one extremely fun to play.
4 Vacation Simulator (77)
Anyone who has enjoyed the Job Simulator is bound to enjoy this one on VR as well. Owlchemy Labs also create this game. However, it simulates the polar opposite of a job, holidays. Vacation Simulator is built in the same spirit as Job Simulator.
It shares a similar gameplay style, visuals, art-style, and quirkiness to its spiritual predecessor. It’s just as fun as before. In fact, some people prefer this one a bit more in comparison.
3 Hot Dogs, Horseshoes & Hand Grenades (79)
Not to be fooled by the name, Hot Dogs, Horseshoes & Hand Grenades is a VR sandbox game that is all about experiencing weapons and more. This game, in every sense, is a gun customization and weapon simulator. However, it has this quirky feel to it that really makes this one unique. The praise for the game is well deserved, and user comments make it even better.
2 Project Cars 2 (84)
Project Cars 2 is the highly anticipated sequel to the original game and a really good vehicle simulation title. It’s one of the best racing VR titles on the market, and its Metascore is evidence of that. This game was released in 2017, during the peak of VR, and was well received with and without the virtual reality headset. Offering over 180 cars, this game really packs a punch for its price. Couple this up with a motion seat and driving wheel, and it will be the best VR experience for automobile enthusiasts.
1 Minecraft VR (93)
Minecraft is one of the most popular games on the planet. So, needless to say, it doesn’t need an introduction. The fact that this game has been running since 2009 is a testament to its greatness, and the inclusion of VR support only makes it much more interesting. While VR isn’t mandatory to play this game, it’s a well-deserved feature that can be used to enjoy it. Building houses and digging feels much more personal on VR, even if it is not needed.
