Call of Duty League Updates Competitive Ruleset For 2021

When it comes to competitive Call of Duty, The Call of Duty League sets all of the rules. As players and fans prepare for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s CDL season, the league is updating its rules for the coming events. While some updates are minor, others can have a big impact on the competitors and their training regimens for when they approach Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.

The Call of Duty League frequently updates its rules to try and meet the needs of both the fans and the players. In the latest rule update, several maps have been added or removed, and new weapons are applied to the competitive ban list.

One of the biggest updates Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War CDL rules have changed is the upcoming map rotation. Raid now appears on Hardpoint, Search and Destroy, and Control, while Cartel, Crossroads, and Moscow have been moved from varying rotations. While fans might see this as a minor switch, many pro players have to practice on the removed maps for several months in preparation of the league. While the competitive community has no problem with Raid being added, they are more concerned that the removed maps might affect their overall performance.

As for weapons, all tactical rifles from Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War have been added to the banned weapon list. This category ban can have a major effect on the overall balance that the developers are managing with in-game weapons. The Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Gentleman agreement already banned the weapon type, but now it is more than just a passive and respected rule.

The goal of these rule changes is to try and bring a higher level of competition into the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War league season. The map switch is most likely to try and push the pros into last-minute practice, while the tactical rifle ban most likely is to solidify an already present opinion among the community.

Overall, the current CDL rules are very similar to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s with similar weapon bans at last-minute map updates. Although there are still several weeks before the official start of the CDL events, this does mean that pros will be in crunch time and fans may have a more interesting show to view in the upcoming broadcast season.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
