Destiny 2: Will Eramis Return? | Game Rant

Destiny 2‘s newest expansion, Beyond Light, has been out for a while at this point. Players have learned the ins and outs of Europa, acquired their exotics, and thoroughly defeated the fanatical Fallen cell on Europa. However, Beyond Light is just the beginning of a trilogy of expansions Bungie has planned for the foreseeable future. To begin this journey, Bungie acquainted Guardians with the Darkness and fleshed out the character of Eramis. Since the story of Europa is likely far from over, players think that Eramis may return before the Europan storyline is fully shelved.

Eramis was a minor character before Beyond Light, but the expansion positioned her as one of the main antagonists of Destiny 2 with the introduction of Europa, a destination teeming with Fallen. Those that played the Beyond Light campaign know that Eramis got encased in Stasis ice at the end of the story. Since Bungie didn’t explicitly show her die, many Destiny 2 fans assumed that she may come back. This is also backed up by game mechanics which dictate that Stasis keeps those trapped inside it alive.

Eve though this theory isn’t new, it was sparked up again after a seemingly lighthearted post shared by the Destiny 2 Twitter account. The Tweet referenced the danger even a frozen Fallen Kell poses and possibility of Eramis waking up. Lore enthusiasts think Bungie wouldn’t have referenced such a thing if it weren’t going to happen at some point.

If it wasn’t obvious enough already, Eramis is confirmed alive from DestinyLore

While this isn’t direct confirmation per se, there are other in-game clues. The most prevalent argument states that since the final fight of Beyond Light‘s campaign ends when Eramis has a sliver of health left, she might still be alive. Before the concluding cutscene plays, Eramis merely drops to her knees out of exhaustion and the player never gets to finish her off.

However, Beyond Light‘s story also has a long tail in the form of post-campaign missions. One of these involve defeating a lieutenant of the now incapacitated Eramis, named Kridis, Dark Priestess. This Fallen Captain frequently emphasizes that Eramis is not only alive, but also can be brought back with a little effort. This never comes to fruition as fans defeat the zealot before Eramis can be resurrected, but it does throw the possibility out there.

Furthermore, Bungie recently resurrected two of its villains, Nokris and Taniks, thus showing that the studio is willing to revisit old antagonists. The directors of Destiny had also stated that the team wants to focus on the existing cast of characters for the time being instead of introducing new ones.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
