Genshin Impact Giving Players a Free Pet During Lost Riches Event

Travelers have barely wrapped their hands around the latest Genshin Impact content, but it seems that miHoYo still has plenty of new material ready to go. With Version 1.3 of the game on the horizon, players now have several events to look forward to, the first of which kicks off today, January 8.

Genshin Impact promised players a trio of events in Version 1.2, but the other two still don’t have confirmed start dates. That said, the Lost Riches event will be running from January 8 – 18, and will allow players a chance to earn a free miniature companion.

Although Lost Riches will end on January 18, its Event Shop remains open until January 22, and the “free pet” will be claimed from the Shop. So, players will need to make sure to play through the event’s content before it expires on January 18. After that though, players have an extra several days to decide which of the three potential free pets to claim.

Lost Riches features a Treasure-Seeking Seelie that players will assist in various ways. Namely, they’ll help the Seelie collect buried Iron Coins, which will in turn be used to claim rewards from the Event Shop. Aside from the Shop’s rewards, Travelers will also receive Primogems and the like for tracking down especially well-hidden treasure. While players won’t be able to go home with the event’s featured Seelie, they’ll be able to trade Iron Coins for one of three available “Mini Seelie” gadgets, which are exactly what they sound like.

The three available Mini Seelie vary only in color, and will follow a player around when equipped. Players will only be able to purchase one from the Event’s Shop, so choose wisely. Hopefully, future events introduce either varying Mini Seelie, or alternative “pet” options, as this is currently the only sort of feature like this in Genshin Impact.

While players may be anxiously awaiting the arrival of new five-stars like Ganyu and Xiao, this event can give everyone a chance to distract themselves while earning some loot (which can be used to summon those rare five-stars later, anyways). Moreover, some players are praising this new mechanic for arriving to the game as free content. Generally speaking, game developers like to reserve cosmetic features as “paid content.” This is understandable, given that cosmetic features don’t affect actual gameplay, but nonetheless, players don’t often get flashy cosmetic features for free nowadays.

With Mini Seelie to meet during Lost Riches, and word of Liben making another trip through Teyvat, players will have more than enough to explore until the game’s next big update, Version 1.3, releases. Though its contents remain unconfirmed, most players assume that this update will introduce not only Xiao, but also the Inazuma region, and several new weapons.

Genshin Impact is available now on Android, iOS, PC, and PS4, and is currently in development for PS5 and Switch.
