Players may not yet be able to fly in World of Warcraft: Shadowlands, but there are several world quests that offer players a chance to enjoy a bird’s eye view of the new zones. Apart from using the in-game flight master system, climbing to a scenic lookout, or the occasional use of a glider, World of Warcraft players still can’t take full advantage of flying mounts in the new Shadowlands zones. While it took over a year for flight to be introduced in the previous expansion Warlords of Draenor, the WoW player base is hoping it won’t have to wait that long to be able to soar over Shadowlands.
Many players have already begun extensive exploration and reputation building, anxiously awaiting the requirements for the Shadowlands flight ability to be available for unlocking. The Icy Veins site has a few theories about what unlocking flying in Shadowlands might entail. There are several world quests available that give high-end players the ability to fly over the new zones, if only briefly. Here’s a list of those quests, and some tips on accomplishing them.
8 Flight School: Falling With Style
Young Kyrians growing up in Bastion are not only taught to fly, but how to fall safely, and with style. To complete this quest, offered in northeastern Bastion, players must use their movement keys or mouse to move to circles while descending slowly, and avoid black clouds. Progress is monitored up to 100% (1o rings). The ascent is repeatable for those who don’t fill the meter in one trip.
An informative video guide by Sipder offers some handy tips. Questers are cautioned to both dismount and cancel any special forms prior to accepting the quest to ascend. Otherwise, wings won’t be granted at the apex, and players will plummet to their deaths.
7 Flight School: Flapping Frenzy
This world quest obtained in the northeastern corner of Bastion, is an exercise in flight control. It plays much like Flappy Bird as players must use their keyboard or mouse to avoid sharp spears above and below. Those who touch the spears have to start over. The quest offers both an easy and challenging mode.
When the bottom of the three spears beneath you is even with the top of your highest hot bar, hit 1 (or the mouse button) to rise. Rinse and repeat until the end. It’s a delicate dance, but a fun one.
6 Flight School: Up and Away!
This quest, which can be obtained in northwestern Bastion, offers breathtaking views of The Eternal Forge and the Citadel of Loyalty. It also offers breathtaking thrills, as players must glide from one suspended flower to another, catching the updraft until reaching the finish line at the top. Don’t spend too much time admiring the view, though; a missed launch point means a player plummets and must re-start the quest.
Completing the three Flight School world quests in Bastion for the first time earns players the “Flight School Graduate” achievement.
5 Soaring Over Bastion
The Soaring Over Bastion world quest, begins in the central part of the zone as a hunting quest. Players are required to obtain antlers from four cloudstriders. Once the antlers have been gathered, they are placed in an offering plate for an elite winged lion named Andira. Players then get the opportunity to mount Andira and go for a ride.
Completion of the quest involves steering and gliding Andira through 10 glowing hoops in air near Hero’s Rest. Those unable to finish all 10 in one go can make multiple trips.
4 Parasol Peril
Described by a Wowhead.com writer as a “Mary Poppins-themed world quest,” Parasol Peril is an unusual mash-up of vampires and umbrellas. Questers are required to leap off a parapet overlooking Darkhaven in Revendreth, with only a parasol for protection.
The view is incredible, but don’t spend too much time looking around. To reach the goal on the other side of the ravine, players must float through anima motes, picking up charge along the way and, of course, avoiding obstacles. Those who don’t make it the first time have the option to repeat the quest until it’s completed.
3 Aid from Above
The troops need supplies and it’s up to Revendreth questers to deliver them! Hop on the back a Darkwing Legionnaire outside Absolution Crypt to begin the supply run. Completion of the quest requires hitting the target with the supplies 10 times.
Look directly down from above during the delivery portion of the quest. Hit 1 (or use the mouse) when the wings of the legionnaire are directly over the target circle for a perfectly-aimed drop every time. Here’s a handy guide from ZaFrostPet.
2 Pupa Trooper
Ardenweald is full of magic and treasure, and this fae-inspired world quest grants players short-term wings to help aid the cause. Questers must fly to the tops of trees to collect 10 hanging pupae to complete the quest.
It’s a fairly straightforward and simple world quest, with very little interference from the nearby evil fae. Take some time to enjoy the beauty of the zone from high in the air. Players can collect the limited-use wings over and over until all 10 pupae are collected.
1 Just Winging It
This world quest in Maldraxxus celebrates the bond between beast and rider, as newbie dragon pilots are asked to help tame the two-headed Flayedwing and help him get ready for combat.
Players are given three buttons to either, soothe Flayedwing, praise him, or hang on for dear life as he tries to buck them off. After a brief ride over scenic Maldraxxus, players who bond with Flayedwing are gently lowered to the ground to part ways.
