Destiny 2: How to Equip Shaders | Game Rant

Destiny 2 features items for players to customize their Guardian’s armor and weapons called shaders. These items change the color scheme and pattern of the armor and can be obtained as a reward for completing missions, Crucible matches, raids, or various other in-game activities. Some shaders are rare and can only be earned during certain limited time events, such as Iron Banner or the Dawning.

Although Bungie has made it clear that transmog won’t be in Destiny 2 until Season 14, players can still take advantage of what the current system has to offer. Destiny 2 offers hundreds of different shaders that, when combined, can offer players unique fashion combinations for their Guardian to show off in combat.

First, open the character menu and navigate to an armor piece (or weapon). Open the details menu and, on the following screen, using the down directional button opens the cosmetics screen. From here, hovering over the small square opens the shader inventory, which opens up the option to choose a shader. Using the left and right directional buttons navigates through the pages of shaders.

Getting the color scheme right can be a little confusing, which is why players should preview shaders before spending the glimmer to apply them. Although shaders are free when being applied to individual item pieces, replacing them from Collections requires 2 Legendary Shards and 500 Glimmer per individual shader, making it costly if done frequently. Another thing to note is that shaders affect items differently, with certain items being entirely recolored to match the shader, and others only being partially recolored or unaffected entirely.

For returning players or Guardians particularly invested in high fashion, the Collections tab in the pause menu houses an inventory of all the shaders available in the game. Buying and equipping them requires players to have earned it already, though once unlocked they’re easily accessible from here. Through this, Guardians in search of a specific color scheme or a new look entirely have an easy way to change things up.

Although the inconsistency of some of the shaders can make in-game fashion more of an issue than it needs to be, some players have come to enjoy slaying hordes of Europan enemies and looking stylish while doing it. With the tragic events of 2020 becoming a thing of the past, equipping shaders will likely be the least of your worries.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light is available now for Stadia, PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
