Respawn Addresses Rumors of a Solo Queue for Apex Legends

The popular Battle Royale title Apex Legends continues to be a force for developer Respawn Entertainment. Just recently, the Fight Night Collection Event kicked off for players, giving a little background on the fan favorite character Pathfinder while also adding tons of new cosmetics as well. The event also added a Town Takeover on the map Olympus where players can enter a combat ring which disables gear and weapons to allow players to face off using melee attacks only.

Since Apex Legends launched, it has heavily focused on team play especially in groups of three. Many Legend abilities, especially support heroes such as Lifeline, are tuned to be effective in groups instead of going solo. However, that fact alone hasn’t stopped many from requesting a solo queue or a way to enter a game alone through a “No Fill” party option when starting a match. While Respawn continues to look into a No Fill setting, the studio has definitively answered the solo queue question.

In response to a Tweet from a fan asking about the potential of adding a solos option, the official Apex Legends account confirmed that the studio has zero plans to add this feature and pointed back to an old blog post which initially addressed the request. The blog post being referenced is from April 2020 in advance of The Old Ways event which brought Duos into the game. In response to Solos, the post confirms that after launching it as a limited time mode in 2019, data indicated that it had a negative impact on the game. New player retention decreased and many legends became useless due to their group focused abilities.

Some fans have pointed out that the blog post does tease that the studio was investigating ways to allow for a solo experience, however, nothing has seemingly materialized around that for now. For Respawn Entertainment, the best way to play Apex Legends is in a group. At this point in time, fans likely shouldn’t expect to see a solo mode or experience any time soon.

For now, the game is preparing enter its eighth season in a few weeks, which bring with it a bunch of new fixes and improvements such as a mid-match damage tracker for all players. Respawn has yet to discuss what else is coming, though dataminers may have unearthed new information sooner than anticipated. February acts as an anniversary for the game after its launch back in 2019 and as such, Respawn appears to be planning a new event. According to found data, Respawn may be gifting players 150 heirloom shards to allow them to pick any heirloom weapon they want, rather than simply adding a new one to the game.

Apex Legends is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Switch version in development.
