Destiny 2, much like its predecessor, is vast and can be hard to dive into. The two games combined have enjoyed numerous expansions and accumulated an immense amount of lore. That said, Bungie is very careful about the amount of information it discloses in storytelling. As so, Destiny continues to have an aura of mystery and ambiguity even for the veteran fans. Certain simple tidbits like where on Earth the Last City is located might still be unknown to some. However, lore enthusiasts think they have found sufficient clues to arrive at an answer.
Players may be more familiar with the term “Tower” compared to the Last City. The Tower is the main hub of Destiny 2 and is located on the walls of the Last City. The full breadth of the metropolis can be viewed from the Tower, but Destiny 2 players seldom find the chance to visit the streets of this place.
Recently, the Reddit community took an interest in the Eva’s Journey lore book that was introduced back in Black Armory. Its entries describe Eva Levante’s perspective of the Red War. In it, the handler of the Dawning event, Eva Levante, talks with Tess Everis, the Eververse store owner. It is stated that while Eva was at the Farm, near the European Dead Zone, Tess was at the Tower, inside the Last City. More importantly, during this conversation, it was the middle of the night at the Farm while the Last City was under daylight.
This had led lore fans to deduce that the Last City must be far enough away from Europe to create a stark time difference. Using this information alongside potential candidates such as Old Russia (close to the Cosmodrome) and the Andes Mountains, the community seems to be unanimous that the Last City is likely situated in the latter.
The Andes Mountains, specifically Chile, has been a popular choice for many fans, and for good reason. Located in South America, it is far enough away from the European Dead Zone and its landscape matches what players see in-game quite well. Moreover, users report that the game mentions plants native to South America. However, the character that provides the most evidence is Amanda Holliday.
Firstly, she tells the Guardian that she flew “across the pond” to reach the Tower from the EDZ. Secondly, she recalls crossing the Panama Ravine as a child to find refuge in the Last City. This anecdote is told during one of the post-mission dialogue scenes for the Last Call campaign mission from Forsaken.
Destiny 2: Beyond Light is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
