Genshin Impact Reveals Ganyu Story Quest Release Date

Genshin Impact is currently past the tail-ends of its second major in-game event, The Chalk Prince and the Dragon. With Version 1.2 of the game now well underway, Travelers are looking forward to the game’s next playable characters, and beyond that, Version 1.3 of the game.

Albedo was introduced to Genshin Impact as the first featured five-star in Version 1.2, but players have also been waiting for the five-star Cryo user, Ganyu, to be introduced as well. She has been known to be the second five-star character introduced by Version 1.2, but as of yet, hasn’t been added to the game’s playable roster.

Though Ganyu still hasn’t appeared in her own banner, players know that Albedo’s Special Character Banner wraps up on January 12, 2021, so it’s expected that Ganyu will arrive at some point around then. As of a recent post from Genshin Impact‘s developer miHoYo, it seems to be even more likely that Ganyu will be introduced on or around January 12.

While not every character in the game has a “Story Quest” for players to unlock, many of the popular and/or significant characters do. Recent releases like Zhongli and Childe both had accompanying Story Quests, as did Albedo, and it seems that Ganyu will share their fates. Ganyu’s Story Quest, titled “Sinae Unicornis Chapter,” will become available on January 12, 2021, at 18:00 (EST).

This Story Quest, named after Ganyu’s Constellation, refers to the “qilin,” which is a mythological Chinese creature, often associated with unicorns – simply put, Ganyu is known to be an Adeptus-human hybrid with “qilin blood.” Once available on January 12th, Travelers will need to reach Adventure Rank 40 or above, and have completed the Archon Quest Chapter I: Act III – “A New Star Approaches.” If both criteria have been met, Travelers can simply use a Story Key to unlock the Sinae Unicornis Chapter.

For those unfamiliar with Story Keys and the Quests they unlock, players can begin to earn Story Keys once they have reached Adventure Rank 26. From there on out, a Traveler will be rewarded with one Story Key for every eight Daily Commissions they complete. These keys can each be used to permanently unlock one of the Story Quests available to the player at their moment of use. While Story Quests don’t reward rare items like Intertwined Fate, they do give significant depth and personality to their respective characters. Mona and Klee’s Story Quests have drawn particular praise for truly adding dimensions to the two characters, and making the Genshin Impact world feel like one that’s been thoughtfully fleshed out.

Genshin Impact is available now on the App Store, Google Play, PC, and PS4, and is currently in development for PS5 and Switch.
