With 2020 being a stacked year of impressive game releases, one of the under the radar hits came in the form of a 2D action farm simulator. Sakuna: of Rice and Ruin released back in November for the Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC, and has found considerable success. Now just over two months after its initial launch, publisher XSEED Games has released a new update for the title.
XSEED posted the January 7 patch notes for Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin on Twitter noting the bug fixes and adjustments with the new update. The patch is currently available for the PlayStation 4 and PC versions of the title, with a follow-up tweet noting that the Nintendo Switch version will be coming soon.
The “Ver. Jan. 7 2021” patch doesn’t bring a lot new content to developer Edelweiss’ successful title, but does address of few lingering issues found within the game. The first section of the patch notes address some of the bug fixes applied with the update. Considering Sakuna’s stable release, these refer to more specific instances of gameplay related issues. Despite the delay in addressing some of these fixes, it has not slowed down the considerable sales success of Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin.
The next section refers to new adjustments made to the game with new animations and improvements. One of the cuter additions is that the update adds new animations when “resting on the porch” which isn’t all that significant, but a charming inclusion nonetheless. The most considerable adjustment to the game is that the maximum number of in-game years which has been expanded from 999 to 9999. This is a considerable boost and embraces the long-term gameplay aspects found in almost all farming games.
While the update is not a considerable one, with the noted popularity of Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin, there are likely more expansive patches to come. The game has even had a big impact on the companies behind it, with XSEED parent company Marvelous seeing a surge in stock price thanks to Sakuna. With farming games having a strong staying power, the mythical harvest won’t end anytime soon.
