10 Mistakes Everyone Makes On Their First Playthrough of Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 is a game that took the world by storm, for better or worse. Some loved it for its grand open-world and riveting main campaign, while a vast majority found the game’s abundant game-breaking bugs and irritating glitches abhorrent.

Whatever the case may be, many played and finished the game anyway. Similar to many games, and while there are many ways of playing certain titles, there are a couple of things many players do that can be construed as a mistake. Playing Cyberpunk 2077 is no different. These things are not necessarily grievous mistakes, but doing otherwise will most certainly help the player do better as the game runs along.

Despite the game’s marketing materials and the plethora of trailers prior to the release of the game, the life paths of Cyberpunk 2077 hold absolutely no ground on how the story of the game plays out, or even how the entire world reacts to players.

The only major change to the gameplay for each lifepath is how the prologue plays out. Other than that, there are no major changes, no special inventory, living situations, stats, or anything at all. Players should simply choose freely and not worry about missing anything grand.

The game’s melee combat mechanic holds so much potential. It was sort-of promised with the game’s early marketing as well. Johnny Silverhand even calls V “Samurai” in one trailer. Granted, Samurai is the name of Johnny’s band, but the poetic justice would have been incredible if the game had great melee combat and V was able to wield a katana properly.

Beginners who will rely on the game’s melee combat will find themselves sorely disappointed. They’ll be placed at a massive disadvantage, even. They should just rely on the ranged weapons the game offers so they can enjoy the game more.

Despite the game’s many bugs and glitches, the wide array of things that players can do while exploring Night City and the world outside is impressive. However, it can be tempting to just stick to the main story, especially with the game’s decent main campaign.

However, if players do this, they’ll be doing themselves a massive disservice. The main campaign may be great, but the game’s side missions also have a lot to offer. Besides, doing the side missions every once in a while will provide players with a couple of handy items and the currency needed for upgrades.

There are a ton of cars and motorcycles the players can buy in-game. There are many options for both, whether the players choose to buy them or earn them during missions. Moving around the world this way is so much better than just using the fast travel option.

The fast travel may be tempting, especially when the next quest location is somewhere far away, but traveling via motorcycle or car will allow players to discover more things within Night City. Besides, they’ll only be able to access fast travel points when they discover them in the world, so traveling manually will allow them to find even more fast travel access points.

Those playing on the PC might want to dig around the graphics settings so they can optimize the game’s performance. This is most helpful for PCs that aren’t extremely powerful as the game’s optimization is not at its best yet. Forgetting to play around with the graphic settings means the players will have to get through the entire game with horrible performance.

The graphic setting menu for PC is a little bit more comprehensive, as with many other PC games, meaning they can really tweak and adjust more settings, but console players also have some basic options. They can turn off settings such as film grain, motion blur, lens flare, and more if the performance is way too poor for them.

Each mission actually has a danger level that assesses the player’s level and whether or not they’re powerful enough to handle it. It may not be clear for the players if they just move around the world and stumble upon a side mission, but the danger level can actually be seen on the game’s quest menu.

It may be possible to finish a side mission with a high danger level, it may even provide them with a sizable reward, but they might end up bashing their heads against the wall to no success. It’s better advice for players to just stick to moderate and low danger level missions until they reach a certain level.

Night City is dangerous and many of the game’s missions can be extremely tough. The players can prepare themselves by visiting the Ripperdocs that are present all throughout the city.

This part of the game can easily be forgotten, but players will have a better time if they pay attention to this aspect of Cyberpunk 2077. It can even be fun as they explore it a little bit more. There are upgrades that not only make V more powerful but also improve traversal.

Street Cred rewards are things in the game that many people forget to consider, but knowing exactly what new abilities they’ve gained will help them power through Night City and complete quests even more efficiently.

The increase in Street Cred will also give players new side missions to do, presenting more options to explore the world. V’s Street Cred should increase naturally as the players do more main and side quests, causing rewards to pop up after reaching a few cred levels.

Cyberpunk 2077’s hacking mechanic is actually incredibly enjoyable, granted players explore it a little bit. Those who prefer to go guns blazing can do so, of course, but it’s a cyberpunk world. It would be a shame not to take advantage of the game’s hacking mechanic.

Hacking the world, even the enemies, makes the game more fun. Players can blind opponents, use their turrets and weapons against themselves, manipulate the cameras, and more.

Breaking the law in Cyberpunk 2077 isn’t as fun as it is in other open-world titles such as Rockstar’s games. The way police spawn in Cyberpunk 2077 is almost broken. They appear out of nowhere, making them an incredible nuisance instead of being an exciting challenge.

Committing a crime in Cyberpunk 2077 can be very easy too. The players can unintentionally run over a civilian, accidentally fire their weapons in public, or do a crime side mission that causes the police to track V, though that final one might be just a glitch.
