Cyberpunk 2077 Crashes Right After Player Gets Platinum

Cyberpunk 2077 player experienced a crash in the PlayStation version of the game immediately after earning its Platinum Trophy. While likely frustrating, this seems to perfectly encapsulate the issues fans have experienced over the last month of playing the game.

Although the game offers a fairly short main story, players must be quite thorough to obtain Cyberpunk 2077‘s Platinum Trophy. For example, each district of Night City has a unique Trophy earned when all quests and crimes within that district are complete. Given that many of the game’s street crime battles are similar, players will need to put up with a lot of tedium to earn the game’s highest award. Add on some difficult-to-achieve Trophies for dispatching enemies in specific ways, and the Platinum Trophy is something only hardcore fans may ever achieve.

Reddit user SoleSurvivorVault18 experienced a game crash while the credits were rolling. While this would be irritating by itself, SoleSurvivorVault18 said they had just obtained the Platinum, detracting from what would normally be an exciting moment. SoleSurvivorVault18 said it was the perfect meta-ending for the game, given Cyberpunk 2077‘s copious glitches. With players still regularly reporting crashes on the PlayStation version of the game, anyone earning the Platinum Trophy has likely seen more than their fair share of error screens.

This seems especially irksome because of the game’s ending structure. While players can achieve all four of Cyberpunk 2077‘s ending branches on a single playthrough, there is a separate achievement for completing each one. This means that SoleSurvivorVault18 must have been viewing the credits for at least the fourth time when the crash occurred.

Making matters worse is the fact Cyberpunk 2077 has multiple endings within each branch. Players may well complete the same ending branch twice to view the alternate versions of some endings, meaning this could have been SoleSurvivorVault18’s sixth or seventh time viewing the credits.

Completing everything Cyberpunk 2077 has to offer has its upsides. For one, the game is filled with some unique and thought-provoking side quests that many players are likely to miss. Fully completing the game can also give players the peace of mind that they have seen everything Cyberpunk 2077 has to offer. For another, late-game players are likely so powerful that almost any foe is trivially easy to defeat.

Obtaining the Platinum Trophy doesn’t mean a player’s time in Night City is over. Completionists have more to do in-game by jumping onto a new file. Creating a new iteration of V can enable different romance options, as most romantic encounters require V to have specific gender and voice settings. Best of all, the game’s secret ending quest may elude many players during a first playthrough. With a fresh start, players can fulfill the criteria for the secret quest and watch it play out.

Cyberpunk 2077 is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions currently in development.
